Description

Stay warm, look sleek

Named after the famed Mortirolo pass, the Castelli Mortirolo Jacket lets you ride comfortably in temperate winter climates. Utilizing some of the technology found on the Espresso Due, this jacket is geared more for riding in moderate temperatures (higher than 46 F) while providing ample wind protection.

The Mortirolo is constructed in two parts. The front utilizes WindStopper X-Fast 2 Fabric, which features four-way stretch, designed to eliminate pulling and bunching while ridingt. Since full windproof coverage isn't needed in moderate temperatures, air-permeable polyester fabric on the back allows body heat to escape while still keeping cool wind off your core.

The Mortirolo is cut in a slim fit to prevent flapping as you ride. The two vertical zippers on the front of the jacket give maximum ventilation when used with the full-length zipper to dump heat while you are climbing. For a light air flow, simply adjust the side vent zippers to where you want them.

The Castelli Mortirolo Jacket is finished off with an elastic gripper along the bottom hem to keep the jacket from riding up. It comes with three rear pockets for your riding essentials and rear reflective tabs and piping on the chest to keep you visible during low-light conditions. It comes in four color combinations- Red/black, Black/white, Anthracite/black, and Camouflage/black and is available in Small through XXX-Large.

All-Around jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Sizes do run a smidge tight since it is suppose to be a tight fit. If you usually get a medium size like me, get one size up. Overall the jacket is super warm on those days around 40-70F, jacket is built to last a very long time. Durable zipper, nice water wicking/ wind breaking material. Jacket makes a great top to wear on cold days casually, get compliments when I wear it!

Castelli does it again!

Mortirolo is a nice jacket. Similar to the Espresso Due, but for those nicer days from 40-60. At half price the jacket is too hard to pass up.

Very nice

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I have worn this during my morning ride around 70km. It was 5~6 degree celcious and the jacket does the job superbly against head-on wind. I only wore craft mesh innerwear inside and It protected the chilly wind and vapored out the sweat in the back. You may bit feel a chill in the back if you take a reat too much :) I am 110cm chest and 36 inches waist. XXL is a snug size. Lastly, the detailed finish is very satisfactory.

Phenomenal Jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Fit: True to size

Some people would call me a large person (6'8"). Taking that into consideration, I was somewhat hesitant ordering a Castelli product as I understand that they run a bit on the small side. However, the XXL matched the size chart perfectly, and I could not be happier. More than long enough for my frame, and form fitting enough to not flap around in the wind.

As for the feature set, the windstopper is more than appropriately named, front vents are awesome, and the rear of the jacket vents the perfect amount of heat. I pair the jacket with an UA cold compression top and UA cold loose fit top. No issues so far in the range of 25-35 degress F. Now if I could only afford this quality for my lower half...

Something special

The Mortirolo jacket is special in the Castelli lineup -and that is saying something. I like this jacket more than the Espresso Due (which is essentially the same jacket but with thicker material) because this jacket is more versatile. Though admittedly the Espresso Due is the jacket to buy if you will be riding in freezing and sub freezing weather.

Application: Castelli rates this jacket for use in 43-60* weather.

PROS: The front vents. The front vents. The front vents. And decent sized vent zipper grips (unlike the Espresso Due). The Gore "Windstopper X-Fast 2" material works great and doesn't flap in the wind. There is a lot of attention to detail in this jacket.

With a vest base layer and Castelli Dolomite merino wool LS base layer and a jersey underneath, this jacket has kept me warm down to 35-40 degrees. Yet, with a lighter base layer system, this jacket works great into the lower or mid 60s using the vents. Neat.

CONS: Jacket is made in China (Macau).

Fit: Size up one size if you are of slim/regular physique -2 sizes if you are thicker. I'm 5'10 and 190 lbs. I wear a L in most street clothes. The XL fit great with enough room in the shoulders and with plenty of length in the arms and is just right lengthwise (torso) front and back. But I bought an XXL so I could have more of a "club" fit. If you are around 5'10" (+- 2") and 160-180 lbs, definitely buy the XL.

favorite winter jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have two of these jackets and with combinations of different layering I use them down to 25 degrees for 30-40 mile rides. The fit is tight like it should be and the wind protection is great while the back of the jacket breathes. I am 6' and 155 lbs and wear a medium. The only problem with this jacket is the sleeves could be longer so the wrists don't get exposed. I have used these jackets going on three winters now and the quality is fantastic, gotta love Castelli gear.

Great Jacket but not too hot

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm 5'11 and 153lbs. I normally wear Castelli medium for all my jerseys and bibs but went a size up on the recommendation of another review. I bought a large and it fits great. Living in California, I do not really use the heavy winter gear. I rode last night with temps of 64 -48 F. The jacket performed great, not too hot and not too cold. Zipped up it keep me warm. Vents on the front are great for letting a bit of air. Zipper is easy to work with a single hand.

Great product and goes with my summer kit colors.

Great product - performs as expected - quality, fit, utility. Ideal for spring temps from 45 to 60.

Fantastic Jacket

I finally broke down and bought a good winter cycling jacket and man am I glad I did? This is the single best piece of cycling apparel I own, I love it. Fit is great, I bought an XL and I am 5'10" 175lbs, perfect fit. I only wear a wool long sleeve base layer under it from 0 degs and up. If it gets above 50 deg I only use a thin short sleeved base layer. Its pretty water proof too. The vents work well at the front.
Best of all its a really sharp looking jacket!! I also bought the neoprene Castelli gloves and Sottile jacket and they are the perfect compliment for my winter riding here on the wet West Coast.
Buy one.

Super warm and very breathable.

Wore this on a cold night within the low 40's in SoCal.

Love it. Wasn't sweating profusely, conforms nicely, looks good, dries quickly, very pleased with the product.

The windblocker panels kept me warm even while the winds picked up, making my feet jealous of my torso and arms.

GReat all winter jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love this jacket because of the bomber protection in the front and neck.. while the lighter mesh like back keeps you from over heating. Wouldn't recommend for wet weather. Tron camo also gets you some good looks.

Great Jacket

This jacket is, in a word, outstanding. As others say about Castelli, make sure to go a size up. I normally wear a large (5-10, 180 lbs, 42 in. chest), but the XL in this jacket is right for me. Still a bit snug, but good. I've worn it now four times in temps ranging from 38 F to 50 F. At the lower end I wore a long sleeve base layer and at the higher end a short sleeve base (Craft in both cases). I was cool but not cold, and the ventilation is great. I especially like the two small front vents. Back pockets are very good. The good form fit prevents the billowing I used to get with my windbreaker. The Windstopper front is effective. All in all, I love it so far.

Responded on

This jacket performs very well in 40-45 degree range. I wear a light base layer with this jacket and stay very comfortable. The jacket does a good job of pulling moisture away from the bass layer, keeping you feeling dry. This jacket is a good choice for those rides where the effort constantly fluctuates. The vents help regulate heat during the high efforts and the there is just enough insulation to keep you warm during the periods of easier riding.
