While we're big fans of arm warmers/short sleeve jerseys, there are days when you know damn well that you'll want the sleeves for the duration of the ride. That's when we reach for a long sleeve jersey. The Castelli Mortirolo Long Sleeve Jersey is perfect for those cool, crisp days when you need a bit of extra protection. Pair it with a base layer for a touch of extra warmth.

This Mortirolo Long Sleeve Jersey is part of their Podium Collection and sports the same custom design as the short sleeve jersey. It has bold Castelli logos and neutral colors with a twist of contrasting color on the sleeve ends and down the sides.

The Mortirolo Jersey is made with a 100% polyester knit fabric that features a subtle waffled pattern that maintains the insulating ability while shedding weight and bulk -- perfect for layering in chilly weather. It wicks moisture away from your skin to keep you warm and comfortable as you ride. It has a full-length zipper, and you'll be able to manage your temperature easily when you decide to conquer the tarmac up the Mortirolo Pass or up your local test piece.

The Castelli Mortirolo Long Sleeve Jersey is available in six sizes from Small to XXX-Large and comes in two colors -- Black/grey and Grey/blue. Please check the dropdown menu for availability. It has the traditional three-pockets in back for the day's essentials.

Watch out for the zipper pull

The fabric, design, fit and performance of this jersey is great (have many Castelli products purchased from this site).

Ordered this item and on second wearing, the zipper broke while putting it on. Clearly a cheap/thin metal connection where the main zipper meets the rubber pull tab. I have never had this problem on other products (cycling or otherwise). I was barely fighting with the zipper here and cannot believe it broke off. Then, to my amazement, the same thing happened the next day on another Castelli Jersey on the 4-5 the wearing.

I am now worried that this fate may strike all castelli products wit this zipper design and while the zipper can still be operated, pulling on a tiny metal tab, vs. a full pull is not fun.

Any suggestions or advice on repairs? As these items are less than 30 days old, I will pursue a warranty claim.

    Good, just run small

Been looking for a long-sleeve jersey for a while, and settled on this one. I first ordered a large, as that is my normal jersey size. I'm 6' and 165lbs, but the large was incredibly tight on me. I exchanged it for an XL and it fits much better. As other reviewers have said, these run tight in the pits, but it is considerably less noticeable during riding. However, you will feel it just standing and walking around. The jersey is warm and great for descents. I'd say it is usable up to 60-65 degrees F, as long as you aren't doing heavy climbing. Once the climbing sets in it gets pretty warm.

How much windproof protection does this...

How much windproof protection does this jersey offer? A little bit?

      Responded on

Yes. Some. There is no windtex, or the functional equivalent, but if it's not too cold, and the jersey is the outer layer, it's fine. If it's cold and windy, OK as a layer, but not as the outer.40+, little wind, just right.

      Tight in the pits...

Quick points on this jersey, which I have in size Large.
Before I say anything... this is an awesome looking jersey. Super slick.
        1) The pits are bit tight for me... enough that I'll be returning it. I'm 5'10", 180lbs, and they cut in quite a bit, even in riding position.
        2) The sleeves are a bit long, too. Not that big of a deal, but I am a 16" 34 1/2" in a dress shirt and these have a fair amount of excess material at the wrist.
        3) It's longer in the front than the short sleeve version, which helps alleviate the exposed belly thing when worn with the mortirolo bib shorts. But, if I raise my arms, I still have exposure.
        4) The black/cyan jersey colors don't match the black/cyan mortirolo bib short colors as well as I'd hoped - please see the picture. As noted in the short sleeve review, the jersey is more of a dark eggplant or purplish slate than black.

        Tight in the pits...

        Good long sleeve Jersey

This is a very nice jersey. Good for temps 40-60. Fabric is not too heavy and wicks sweat, effective wind blocker. Colors stay with washings. This runs a lot smaller than any other jersey I have. I am a large in most, the short sleeve worked for me in an XL and was very tight and in the long sleeve had to exchange for xxl. (I am a suit size 43 almost 42 regular.)
The pockets are very deep and hold tight, when standing runs short in front but perfect when riding. The zipper is very nize and is hidden by the fabric. I like the plastic zipper as well. Good attention to detail. RUNS VERY SMALL.
