Many women are not partial to wind vests, fearing it will inevitably come in a men's cut that will have wide shoulders, a straight line from the armpits to the waist, and a length that, when combined with an elastic hem, is all but guaranteed to look ill-fitted and flap like mad in the wind.

The Castelli Leggera Women's Vest is different. Narrower shoulders, smaller arm holes, extra panels in front to better fit the vest around a woman's body, a shorter length, and a wider waist. There is gathered material on the back with some elastic and will stretch to fit. It also has a little pink highlighting in the mesh fabric inside the collar and a broad Pink mesh panel on the back.

The vest weighs about 50g. The key is the windproof, water-resistant, breathable Forcefield fabric. If you stuff it in its included stuff sack, it will result in a package about four inches across. You can even stuff it smaller than that; the bag is not only for storage but to protect the vest from scratchy Velcro and rough zippers in the wash.

Despite the paper feel and light weight, the vest is packed with features. The zipper works two ways, so you can zip up from the bottom to access your pockets. There's a draft flap behind the zipper. When the vest is totally zipped up, the zipper fits inside a zipper garage.

The Castelli Leggera Women's Vest comes in sizes from Extra Small to Extra Large.

Good for windy but warmer days

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

This vest is an essential layering piece. It helps cut the wind but does not add bulk. It is amazingly light and easy to stuff in a jersey pocket. It is great for spring and fall riding when the mornings are cool and you need an extra layer, but want to shed the layer during the ride as you and temperatures warm. I found the fit fairly true to size but a bit short in torso length. I'm 5'7".

When You Need It, It's There for You

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Very thin and lightweight, but strong. One of those pieces you need to be able to grab from your gear bag when you need to protect your core from threat of chilling wind, and a little moisture. The fit is awesome, flattering, but allows movement. I have athletic shoulders, and my friend who has been a competitive swimmer with strong shoulders and arms, still fits nicely into this vest as well. Compacts very small.

Perfect light weight vest

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this for my wife and she was really hoping for a different one that wasn't available. However, when it arrived she was very happy with the material. I bought the white colored vest with the pink accents and she was worried that the pink was too much pink. In the end she loved it and wears it whenever she needs just a bit of protection on top of a jersey.

best cycling vest ever

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this vest for my wife. It is foldable, light and good to wind stopping. Design and fitting is also great.

Perfection at its finest

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love love love this vest. This vest does everything you can ask of it. It keeps your chest warm rain or shine. Its a great layer. Its easy to pack/stuff in the back of your jersey. It comes with a cool pouch you can use to stuff it or carry stuff in it.

I am extremely happy with this purchase

essential piece!

I have the Leggera vest and the jacket. I love them both. They are surprisingly warm. You would think because they are so thin they wouldn't do much, but they block the wind completely and keep the warmth in so you feel very comfortable. I use my vest under a regular cycling jacket when it is below 50 degrees. If I get too hot I have the option of taking off the vest or jacket. The Leggera packs down to a little sack that is included. I think that the Leggera vest and the jacket are the best pieces of cycling clothing that I have purchased because you can wear it in all cold weather conditions and since it's so thin it makes a perfect under layer to a jacket. The Leggera jacket is form fitted so the "filling with air" is minimal. I have been very happy with this purchase!

    Serves its purpose

This is a really thin vest! Definitely not winter gear, but it's great for breaking the wind and blocking rain. I ordered the white vest and it's pretty sheer (see-through). I expected only the collar to be pink, but the back of the vest is pink as well.

Good product that fits well, but I was expecting something a bit heavier so I'm not completely happy with it. You may love it as long as you know what you're getting.

      Warm and Snuggly

I wore this jacket on a rainy / windy ride this weekend. The temps were around 70 but with wind and rain this vest was really nice. It kept me quite warm for being such a light weight material.

        great layer

nice lightweight vest, packs into pocket or self pouch. Wish back vent was exposed, instead it is covered and doesn't breathe as well. Bright pink on back would give better visibility than all black
