Don't Leave Home Without It...

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have the black and white version of this jersey. This is a great jersey for cool weather riding (40-60 degrees), as I never get hot or cold. I recommend wearing a light-medium undershirt (see Capo or Castelli). Don't worry about dirt, mud, or crude getting on the jersey (white or black), it comes right off with mild soap on gentle cycle in the washer. I'm going to try the Nanoflex arm warmers to compliment this great equipment.

I normally wear a large in Castelli jerseys. I have a 42 inch chest and 34" waist. Will a large jersey fit me or should I order an XL?

Responded on

I have same chest size and xl fits me well.

The Best 40-60 Degrees Jersey...

I live in the Bay Area and love riding in the early morning (less cars). In the Spring, Summer, and Fall, the weather in the morning can range from 40-60 degrees. I was getting tired of wearing so many pieces of gear to prepare for the weather. Then, I found this jersey, read all the reviews and decided to give it a try. I had this jersey for almost 2 months and it has perform magnificently. I'm never hot or cold, just comfortable. The material is thicker but does not weigh you down. The construction is good and the fit is more towards a trim fit. Just trying to figure out why someone did not come out with this long time ago.

It Really Works

First use was on a day that had everything weather wise with temps in the mid 40's, occasional torrential downpors, hail, wind, sun, more rain, more sun, etc for over 3 hours. It performed remarkably well. I had a mid-weight long sleeve Smartwool base layer under it and used the Nanoflex arm and knee warmers with rain booties. I was comfortable the whole ride. It is NOT waterproof so don't expect water to stay out. What it does however is let you remain warm and "dry feeling" despite whats going on outside. I saw several groups and all had rain jackets, some flapping in the wind or unzipped with sleeves pushed up when the sun came out. I did nothing but pedal and smile with no adjustemts needed. I have the black but I'm ordering the white after I post this. I love this garment!

Is their anywhere on this planet that has...

Is their anywhere on this planet that has the black one in size small? I really want to get one of the ASAP but have been unable to find a black small ANYWHERE! I've looking for 2 months now, and have made probably 20 phone calls and checked over 40 on line stores and nothing! Do they not make a small size in black?

Responded on

try contacting Castelli direct. I had a warranty issue and returned a jersey that they no longer stocked. So they gave me an option and I choose the Gabba in medium and they shipped it to me. They might be able to help. Also, in August they will be shipping the 2012 fall/winter clothing and soon the vendors will be restocked with this item. Might just wait a little bit and check again. Whatever you do, get this jersey. It is amazing!!!! The best rain kit ever.

The GABBA jersey is an extremely comfortable piece to add to your cross or winter kit. This level of comfort and fit are not usually found in a waterproof garment. I will be using this to train outside in the Portland rain, and again as a base layer under my team kit next fall when Cyclocross season returns. Alone, it requires no extra layers for warmth, and still allows enough heat and vapor out to keep you comfortable. I'm pairing it with the Nanoflex arm warmer to finish the waterproof wardrobe I'll be wearing this winter.

So I live in Maui & during our winter months there's alot of rain w the low temp in the 70s but can go up to mid 80's. How would this shirt work here in our warmer but sometimes VERY wet climate?

Responded on

I think this jersey would be too warm for temp. in the 70s and above, but that depends on level of exertion. A slow, easy ride in wet and low 70s would be okay. A medium to hard effort and it would be too hot.

Nice Jersey

Nice jersey for cool-cold weather riding. I have used it a couple times now with pearl izumi no sleeve trasfer base layer in 40-50F degree weather instead of taking a normal jersey and ight wind shell. Add some arm warmers and it works great in anything below 50F - not to warm for me. Optimal for me in this jersey w light base layer is 40-45F, still good from 45-52F, need to let down neck zip from low 50-high 50's. At 60, you can still wear it, but it does feel a bit warmish depending on your effort. Fit is comfortable with nice fleece-like interior.
-Wind protection is way better than my lightweight shell and you dont have to deal with flapping in the wind or a huge lump in your jersey back pocket. + you dont have to carry an annoying shell in your jersey pocket .
-Fit is snug, but stretchy.
-price - but nor really...how much did you pay for a jersey + wind vest?

Note on sizing. I'm 5'10", 150lbs average build. I usually wear a small in Capo tops and meduim in Castelli tops. i should note that i like to wear my jersey's snug and i have a short torso. I initlally ordered the Medium, which was fine but a little looser than perfect for me. I was going to keep it, but then i tried the small. I think small fit me better. Maybe because the stretchy material.

Have only had it in light rain and it performed well.

great item

...rode with this jersey twice so far. An excellent item. Both rides in the temperature zone 7C/45F to 15C/60F, 4 hours, very windy and a little rain and paired with the Castelli nanoflex arm warmers and the Castelli airco short sleeve base performed extremely well. love it and the bad black "stealth" look. ...probably also get the white version later. A very useful and versatile item/the longer arms/longer back are nice touches too. For a snug perfect fit size L works for me / 39in chest and 6ft .

Nice jersey for Pacific Northwest

Here in Oregon weather from Fall through Spring is hard to predict. Usually there is a chance of rain, and I will pack a rain shell just in case. This new Castelli rain jersey may be the perfect product for cool and wet days.
Here are my impressions so far:

I went on a short one hour ride yesterday in typical Oregon rain/drizzle/fog and high 50s. At the end of the ride I did feel a little moisture but could have been persperation. Temperature-wise I was very comfortable.

The fit is typical Castelli (i.e. snug). The construction is fine quality, and the material is a heavy-stretchy fabric that wahes well. The windstopper fabric does stop the wind and helps wick the sweat off. Waterproof? Well, the jersey has a little logo that says waterproof but I'm not completely sold on that, yet. Water does bead on the material, but I would describe it as water resistant when exposed to constant rain.

For me I think I can wear this jersey, light short-sleeve baselayer and arm-warmers down to about 45 degrees and take the warmers off in the high 50s.
One reason I gave only 4 stars is because the white color does not look good after a sloppy wet ride. It would be nice if castelli would make this jersey with some of their fancy graphic designs. All in all a very nice product.

While Castelli doesn't have a women's version of the Gabba, they do have the Trasparente (http://www.realcyclist.com/castelli-trasparente-jersey-long-sleeve-womens) which is a great, long-sleeved jersey built with WindStopper X-Lite. Check it out!

Better yet...Gore's ALP-X 2.0 Jacket. Wind/Water Proof (sealed seams and Goretex); light weight enough you can carry it in your pack, anytime, anywhere! Also comes with a zip-off hood. Great item from Gore.

my thoughts exactly...any other colors, and a LADIES VERSION?

The black jersey has long reflective strips around the rear pockets and along the trailing edge of the rain skirt. My team mates were able to see me easily 100 ft. in front of them during an early morning foggy / light rain ride.

What about long-sleeve?

What about long-sleeve?

Responded on

Castelli actually designed this piece to be worn with their Nanoflex Arm Warmers (http://www.realcyclist.com/castelli-nanoflex-arm-warmer) for a little more versatility when the sun comes back out, but if you'd still much prefer a long-sleeve jersey, the Aero Rain Lite (http://www.realcyclist.com/castelli-aero-rain-lite-jersey-long-sleeve-mens) is the long-sleeved sister of the Gabba.
