Item # CST00AW

Free speed, good looks.

Castelli once again complements its Free Aero jerseys with a pair of matching bib shorts displaying the classic, clean aesthetics that have long defined the brand. Devoid of clashing sponsor logos and bright graphics, the Free Aero Race Kit Version Bib Shorts feature the full range of Castelli's achievements in fabric technology, ready to stand out on dozens of start lines with impeccable fit and advanced aerodynamic design.

The Free Aero is designed for aerodynamic racing, but with its pedigree as Castelli's pro-level race shorts, comfort during long, back-to-back rides is another key tenet of its mission. Castelli starts with a blend of breathable, moisture-wicking materials when constructing the shorts, using its proprietary Forza fabric to achieve a contoured fit across the thigh panels of the shorts that will maintain gentle compression throughout hours spent pedaling in and out of the saddle. Dimpled Vortex fabric complements Forza, facilitating more efficient aerodynamics on the wind-exposed areas of the shorts along the outer legs and lower back. The large leg cuffs are backed by Giro Air, which is more mesh than elastic and allows for the same secure grip as elastic but with smoother, more evenly-distributed pressure on the skin.

In terms of comfort, Castelli trusts its supportive Doppio V construction along the front of the bibs for a secure fit along the midsection, while flatlock stitching throughout the shorts greatly diminishes the likelihood of chafing. Featherweight Carré bib straps provide only the amount of coverage you need, gracefully disappearing under a Free Aero jersey and staying firmly in place throughout your ride. Arguably the most important feature in terms of comfort, Castelli's top-of-the-line Progetto X2 Air chamois confidently steps up to its job, with a luxuriously soft arrangement of multi-density foam strategically placed to provide support on long and short rides alike without inhibiting your movement in the saddle. A four-way stretch outer layer with a bacteriostatic treatment and soft, micro-denier surface blends the chamois in with the rest of the shorts for a smooth, unified fit.

Comfortable bib shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I compare these to the endurance shorts of the same brand. These are more comfortable with better leg grips. Chamois is excellent. I like the color combination better than all black. The stitching and construction is better than the endurance model bib shorts and looks less prone to come apart
