Why We Like The Castelli Estremo Glove

With the right gear, we don't have to limit winter riding to a dank basement or crowded spin class at the gym. Gloves like Castelli's Estremo offer the coverage and weather protection for pedaling through those frigid months. The Estremo Glove is equipped with wind- and water-resistant WINDSTOPPER INFINIUM, another reliable technology from GORE-TEX that keeps us comfortable in unpleasant weather. A fleece lining keeps our paws warm and transfers perspiration to the outer WINDSTOPPER layer. And because connection to the hoods is just as important as warmth, weather protection, and moisture management, silicone palm grips offer excellent feedback for control and confident braking.

Warm hands in 35-40 degree weather

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

May be the best gloves I have owned. Not sure if they could handle 25 without liners, but they are good. The cuff is almost too tight, but with the Velcro it makes it so that no cold air comes in.

I haven't had an opportunity to ride with them in the 20 degree range yet, but they were bullet proof in the low 30s. I was out for 2 1/2 hours and my hands were fine at the end of the ride. Previously, I had worn a cheap pair of lobster style cycling mitts and my hands would freeze. Good purchase.

Wish I had found these years ago

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

They are not cheap but you will be getting your money's worth many times over. I have spent many hours on my bike with painfully cold fingers and toes. I tried many brands of gloves and hand warmers which all failed, so I thought that's the price you pay for cold weather cycling. Not anymore! This winter in Buffalo, NY we have had the harshest blizzard in 30 years. I wore these gloves to check on neighbours and dig out of my house several times and I often had hot hands! the windchill was -35ºC!! On recent road rides in -10ºC before wind chill) my hands were cold but not painful like they normally are in those conditions. They felt warm when I was fat-biking in -5ºC conditions. Now, if Castelli would just make socks..... P.S. I have big square palms

Not a below freezing glove!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Living in Michigan, I agree with the other reviewer from the Midwest. This is not a below freezing glove. Did a ride at 28° F and my fingertips were frozen by the time I got back to the car. Have to wear a liner glove for anything below 40 Fahrenheit. Very comfortable glove but may run a little small. Wear a large/extra large depending on company. The extra large was the fit for me

Size and design issues

I am a medium sized human and have always fit comfortably in large gloves. Not this time. They were quite snug overall and my fingers pushed up against tips of the glove fingers. My other issue was how they fit around my Apple Watch. They didn't. Even when the Velcro closure was left undone, the watch fit awkwardly and uncomfortably under the cuff.

Love them

Stylish and warm in all conditions. Had them several winters of regular use and they are going strong. Bravo, Castelli

These Gloves Just Plain Work!!

OMG! These gloves work! I've used them on several rides where the temperatures were just below freezing. Even after 2+ hours, the only noticeable sensation I had was Complete Comfort! That's something I'm not used to at these temperatures. I've been searching for a good pair of winter cycling cloves for a few years now. Everything else I tried just came up short; even with liners. These may be a little pricey but they are far cheaper than all the other gloves that I wasted money on. In fact, I like them so much that I bought an additional pair! MY hand circumference measurements come in just below 9.5 inches. So I went with an XL thinking I may need glove liners. As delivered, the fit is perfect. Not tight; not loose... just right. They are so good that I never needed any glove liners. Their construction puts just the right amount of padding in all the right places and just the right amount of absorbent material along the thumb; should your nose get runny. The only thing that takes a little getting used to is that they are a little on the bulky side. I really hesitated to bring this up because it's more because of my initial impression than actual performance. In actual use it's the "bulk" that keeps in the warmth. Once you're used to these gloves you really don't notice them. Shifting and breaking are not compromised in any way.

Lots of reviews say they're not as warm as expected. I'm not sure what was expected but in the winter I can ride wearing these gloves and my hands are warm. That's pretty much the litmus test. Good construction. Durable. Also a piece of advice; if it's really cold, buy merino wool liner gloves (Hester makes a good one).

Over hyped gloves

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I should?ve listened to my guts on getting these gloves! Not as good as what other people are saying when it comes to cold weather! I live in the midwest and it didn?t stood a chance when it comes to a 20-30 degree temps, its temp range is only around 40 degrees max! Wind chill here in the midwest is frigid even with a liner gloves i can still feel the cold! Warning!!!! Sometimes the brand name is only a ?name? ??????
