Castelli Dolomite Long Sleeve Zip Neck Base Layer $79.95
Stay warm with a stretchy sheep
When you think of wool, what comes to mind? Retro jerseys? Scratchy riding shorts? Wool has come a long way since single speed bikes ruled the races and the Castelli Dolomite Long Sleeve Zip Neck Base Layer seamlessly integrates the timeless qualities of wool with synthetic fabrics into the perfect cool weather base layer.
With all the synthetic wonder fabrics on the market, why would you wear something as simple as a wool blend? Well, wool is a naturally hydrophillic fiber. This means that it has the ability to hold as much as 30 percent of its weight in water before exuding a feeling of wetness. Additionally it's anti-microbial so that you won't stink after hours on the bike — no matter how much you sweat. The blend of polyester and elastane in the Dolomite keeps the base layer fitting close to the skin, which helps it wick moisture away from the skin. It was designed with a quarter-zip neck that can be adjusted to help regulate body temperature, and flat lock seam construction for comfort.
The Castelli Dolomite Long Sleeve Zip-neck Base Layer is available in sizes Small through XX-Large in the color Anthracite.

- Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
- Natural Waist:
- Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
- Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.

- Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.
What community has to say
great warmth from a mid-weight layer
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
wool fabric is incredibly warm and comfortable. fit is traditional castelli, I am 5'10", 165-lbs with a 30" inseam and I wear XL castelli jerseys. the XL here fits perfectly in my opinion b/c I don't like super snug fit. i tried the Large and it almost fit, but was very snug and a little shorter than i wanted (i wear this base layer with casual clothes too, and i like the tail a little longer). overall a great garment that will keep you very warm. i agree with using regular castelli sizing when ordering.
As others have reported, great material, stitching and fit.
I wear medium in castelli jerseys and take medium with this garment as well. Its correctly stated as form fit (not snug like a jersey)
For guys that wear Castelli, choosin a size should be straight forward.
Fantastic garment - tiny sizing.
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
This is one of the finest cycling/sports gear garments I have purchased. Very high quality, comfortable feel, beautiful design. Unfortunately I returned my original purchase because the sizing is off by 2 sizes! In Castelli (and all cycling brands I own) I wear an XL jersey/vest/jacket and ordered the same with this base layer (I am 6'3", 190 lbs). It is literally 2 sizes too small. Prior reviews made similar comments and I didn't believe them - please believe me - this runs 2 sizes too small! Save yourself the pain and get the proper size going up 2 sizes. You will love this garment when you do.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
First, the sizing: Typical Italian cycling garment (and Castelli) sizing. Size up one for sure! I'm 5'10" and 190 lbs. The XL is the correct size. Plenty of length in the arms. Just enough room in the shoulders.
Itchy? Well, I love wool base-layering for cycling, skiing, and even for road running in the Winter. I have a lot of experience with wool and athletic application. This Castelli merino wool jersey -is- ever so slightly itchy, but all wool is. Didn't bother me. Wool is a super fabric! Insulates the best. Vents & wicks moisture the best. Zero sweat odor. Zero.
In addition, the looks, quality, and stitching on this piece was fantastic. The quality of the medium-weight wool was really impressive. The flat lock stitching fantastic. And I have loved the 1/4 zipper to vent and dump heat when needed (especially useful at the end of morning rides in the winter or shoulder seasons.). Lastly, this piece comes in a box fitting of fine jewelry. Really.
Highest recommendation. In fact, this is perhaps the single finest piece of cycle clothing I have ever owned from Castelli -or Santini, Giordana, Di Marchi- or anyone else for that matter!!! Hand wash. Flat/air dry.
Fit and size
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Just going to comment on the sizing and fit. I'm 5'5", 36" chest (lean build) and the Small fits me perfectly. Have only used once so will update as I use it more. Initial impression: good quality product.
