Ready for the deluge.

When it's really coming down — and especially when it's really cold out — the taller cuff of a shoe cover can be the difference between a happy ride and a crappy ride. The Castelli Diluvio 16 Shoe Covers have 16cm cuffs, and their three millimeter-thick neoprene has thermosealed seams to block water, with cleat and heel cut-outs below to make walking a little easier. Reflective details make you more visible after the sun goes down on those short winter days, too.

Good for winter riding and training

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've used these shoe covers all last winter, and for the first half of this winter. I commute daily, and also am a road bike racer - they have served well for all my needs, and I would recommend them. If it is cold and/or raining outside...

Diluvio means "deluge or flood" in Italian. The purpose of these booties is obvious.

Castelli is based in the foothills of the Italian Alps (Dolomites). They know winter cycling.

PROS: These are warm down to about 35° F with Castelli Quindici wool socks -and- truly waterproof. You want the height of the 16 mainly to keep the rain out (and for looks). Neoprene is fully waterproof and the central seam is thermosealed (nice).

These also feature a high quality YKK waterproof zipper and zipper garage (nice). The zipper garage keeps the zipper from floping up & down on each pedal stroke, or from snaging your tights.

Btw, these are the best winter booties that Castelli makes in my opinion.

Tip #1: Water spray from the front wheel can work its way up through the vent holes in the bottom of road shoes (if your shoes have them). Tape those bad boys up with electrical or duct tape on wet days or your socks will get soaked from the bottom.

Tip #2: During dry cold rides, most people wear their booties over their bibtights at the ankle. In heavy rain, however, I recommend wearing your (DWR) bibtights -over- your booties so the rain will slide down over the top of the booties.

Sizing: I wear a 45 in Sidi and Shimano. The XL fit perfect (snug).

    Toasty

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Diluvio 16's are nice and tall shoe covers that provide plenty of warmth in freezing weather. They also keep the rain out in soggy conditions. The only downside, they do not breath extremely well. So your feet may be a bit sweaty at the end of your ride.

    Castelli Diluvio 16 shoe covers

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Had high hopes for these shoe covers. After about 5-7 rides wear holes appeared in the base of the shoe covers which have continued to get bigger with each subsequent use. Very disappointed in the build quality of this product and had hoped for better from Castelli. At least they look good

    Tore hole in nose

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Size chart lists L and XL bit pruduct comes L/XL. I wear sixe 11 so it should have fit even though on the outer limit. Exchangingfor XXL. Last pair was great but stolen via car break in.

what temp range is this rated for?

Castelli rates the Diluvio 16 winter booties for use in 32 to 55* F weather. Wear good wool socks in colder weather.
