Description

Charge into the cold.

Wind and water play a predictable role in ruining perfectly good training rides -- especially in temperatures approaching the freezing mark. Castelli CW 4.0 Windstopper Gloves are designed to provide maximum protection against wind and rain without sacrificing the weight and comfort of lighter gloves.

The CW (Cold Weather) 4.0 Windstopper Gloves are constructed using Windstopper X-Fast, a polyester fabric that provides total wind protection and excellent breathability. It's perfect for those early spring days when you're forced to suffer through hours of cold and wet weather to make up for weeks of Sundays spent eating bacon and searching for live feeds of Belgian cyclocross. In addition to protecting you from the elements, the CW 4.0 Windstopper Gloves also use a lofty microfleece back that adds comfort and warmth while increasing moisture transfer for cool temperature workouts. After all, your hands sweat even when it's cold -- and a dry hand is a warm hand.

The CW 4.0 Gloves also feature a full palm of I-Vario, a grip-enhancing material that also decreases vibration; while a soft microsuede thumb panel will gently wipe a pesky runny nose. The gloves also have a neoprene cuff for added warmth (they'll stay snug around your wrist) and use Velcro for easy closure (they're easy to pull on and take off, even when riding).

The Castelli CW 4.0 Windstopper Gloves come in Black/anthracite and are offered in five sizes from Small through XX-Large.

  • Windstopper X-Fast fabric blocks cold air, while its fleece lining retains heat for warmth
  • Soft fleece lining also wicks perspiration for for comfort and control
  • A neoprene cuff with hook-and-loop closure provides a weatherproof seal
  • I-Vario padded palm dampens vibration for reduced fatigue on long rides
  • Microsuede thumb keeps your appearance acceptable

Here's what others have to say...

Nice gloves but NOT for the cold

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

As typical of Castelli products these are well made, but after commuting a few times in weather in the 30-40 range I'd say they are a shoulder season glove. Oddly enough the tips of the fingers get really cold around the seams, not sure if that's based on how the little bit of insulation and Windstopper is added or not.

mild winter/fall glove

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

these fit nicely & work well enough in weather over freezing but below 32degrees you'll need something warmer

Is there actually any real padding in this...

Is there actually any real padding in this glove or is the palm just gripper?

Not a winter glove...

These gloves have proven not to be warm enough much below 38 F. I was using them today at 34~35 F and my fingers were numb in about an hour. Adding Hincapie glove liners helped a little, but these gloves are not keeping me warm enough when the temp approaches freezing.

Sadly I will have to go back to my ENORMOUS PI gloves and look like the Michelin Man on wheels.

The gloves are nice in the range of 38 - 45, but at the high end of that range they are actually too warm. I will continue to carry these gloves, liners, and the heavy pair. Winter riding is always a lot of take off as one warms, but I hate cold fingers.

warm enough

gloves fit nice. Standard cycling glove fit runs a bit small. Hands have stayed warm in temps down to the mid 30's. Have not ridden colder yet, but think they would continue to perform to lower temps. Windstopper is excellent and the quality appears to be on par with Castelli products, thumbs up. update: These gloves are really not for colder temps below the mid thirties, same warmth as the Castelli Chiro Due, but more expensive. great glove for mild winter weather.
