Castelli Core Mesh Men's Sleeveless Base Layer $44.95
It's like a shirt made out of air.
This is the sleeveless version of Castelli's Core Mesh Base Layer. And as with the short sleeve version, it incorporates an update to the classic fishnet style design. The older design used the holes of what felt like real fishnet in order to trap air between the skin and the second layer of clothing.
However, with the new fully-open mesh design, it still serves to hold the jersey off of the skin. Essentially, this creates a layer of air between your skin and the jersey in order to help you maintain a constant body temperature. But, besides these thermo-regulating properties, the improvements that Castelli brings to the table are several. The mesh is made from a polyester hollow core fiber that's soft-to-the-touch, efficiently wicks away moisture, and has ample stretch. In terms of shape, Castelli calls this 'body wrap,' because it's designed to wrap the body so that the gaps are only in the mesh, not between the mesh and the body. Accordingly, the entire base layer is mesh, save the hems and the 'V' that resides just below the collar.
The Core Mesh is cut long in order to stay comfortably tucked inside your shorts and bibs. Additionally, it was constructed with minimal seams for a maximum level of comfort.
The Castelli Core Mesh Sleeveless Base Layer is available in the color White and in the sizes Small/Medium, Large/X-Large, and XX-Large.

- How to Measure:
- For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
- Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
- Natural Waist:
- Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
- Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.

What community has to say
neck too small,
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
no matter what body size, xl, 2-3 xl, SS or sleveless.
I'm 165, 5'9, 31 waist, 44 chest (push ups).. No one seems to know if there's a reason for the neck to be so tight. I have average 17", so they all went back. Looking at http://www.backcountry.com/castelli-airco-base-layer-short-sleeve-mens?ti=U2VhcmNoIFJlc3VsdHM6bWVucyBiYXNlIGxheWVyIHRvcHM6MTo0Om1lbnMgYmFzZSBsYXllciB0b3Bz
maybe will do the job. The open net did add some warmth as an extra layer next to skin though.
Helps me beat the heat
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
This base layer is must have for riding in warmer temps. Anything 80 degrees and above and this thing is on under my jersey. Essentially it's like having air conditioning during the ride because it creates room for air to flow between your jersey and your skin. The faster you ride, the cooler you feel. I own this model and the seamless version and prefer the seamless, but they both work great.
I wash this base layer by hand in the sink and air dry - do not put in the dryer. Also size down for a close to skin feel. You don't want this to fit lose on you. And be prepared for your wife to laugh at you and make fun of you if she sees you walking around the house with this on.
Quality Castelli construction too. I end up washing my right after my ride so I can have it ready again to ride the next day.
PROS: (1) This fish-net like baselayer is very effective in warm weather just like Blder 7 says above. This garment is designed to keep you cool in warm weather by holding your jersey off your skin. (2) Sock-like fit and construction (no seams). And the polyester hollow-core fiber is soft. (3) It works!
CONS: (1) Opening for the head is very small. No big deal (though I hope Castelli fixes this in the next version). Just take care in working this baselayer over your head. (2) Made in El Salvador (?).
Every serious rider should own a garment like this for riding in warm weather.
