For reppin' while you're rippin'.

We're always pumped when exciting cycling clothing hits the market, breaking the relatively still and predictable waters of the industry's fashion. When one of our favorites, Castelli, released their Digi Camo theme, we wanted to get in on the action, so we joined forces with them to create the Castelli Competitive Cyclist Digi Free Aero Men's Bib Shorts (and a sweet matching jersey, too). They're not just fun for the eyes, though. They're real bibs for real cyclists, and they'll quickly become one of your favorites.

The beauty of fit and comfort of Castelli's Free Aero Race bibs, on which these Camo ones are based, comes from the targeted use of three main fabrics. First, Castelli developed what they call an Action Micro fabric that is particularly durable and placed it in the saddle contact regions, since those are the areas that get the most regular wear and tear. Energia Micro fabric, with its outstanding stretch and return, is used on the sides and back of the bib shorts, while Breathe Micro fabric is used for the front of the shorts. As its name indicates, the latter has been designed to let the fabric breathe to help keep the legs from overheating when the sun is beating down on a hot day.

No matter how many innovative fabrics are used, the Castelli bibs wouldn't even make it into the suitcase of a pro rider without a superior chamois. The Progetto X2 Air Seat Pad benefits from Castelli's ongoing collaboration with the Garmin as well. The team spent over a year testing this short, and that's a lot of saddle time to ponder how comfort might be improved. The good news was that Castelli had it pretty much right to begin with. The minor improvements that were made included a perforated foam layer being added to the pad. This layer helps to ventilate and keep you cool as it allows air to flow directly onto the surface fabric. It wicks moisture away ensuring that you'll stay dry even on the hottest days. Keeping your nether regions dry is paramount to minimizing chafing and saddle sores. The layer sitting next to your skin is made from a four-way stretch, seamless, bacteriostatic layer designed to move with you, reducing any bunching and friction. The cushioning layer consists of strategically placed, multi-density foam. For good measure, perforated viscous comfort inserts have been added under the highly sensitive ischial and perineal pressure areas, so that your undercarriage will be supremely protected whether you are touring the countryside or training for that gravel road race.

The cut of the shorts ensures that you won't feel stifled in the heat of a summer day. The shape of the bib straps, for example, allows for a very wide opening on the front torso that dips down to the waist. You won't feel hindered by the straps and you'll really appreciate the open-air feeling on hot climbs up mountains in July. Knowing how irritating inner thigh seams can be, Castelli has eliminated them. And what seams do exist have been flat-locked sewn so as to be as unobtrusive as if there were no seams at all.

To avoid pinching that occurs from thick elastic leg grips, Castelli upgraded the hems of the legs by including their Giro3 integrated leg grippers. The generous, 5-centimeter-wide band is knit directly into the shrts and gently compresses to secure the leg hem in place. It also lies completely flat, keeping your leg aero as if it were in a skin suit. As a final touch, Castelli included highly reflective details on the back of the grippers for extra safety.

The Castelli Competitive Cyclist Digi Camo Free Aero Men's Bib Shorts are available in one color scheme, and they come in four sizes: Small through X-Large.
