Castelli Body Paint Women's Shorts $0.00
Seamless ... literally.
Castelli is so confident that the comfort and fit of the Body Paint concept that they offer it in both bib and half shorts. This is the latter, which they call the Body Paint Women's Shorts. Just like the bibs, only they've taken the Giro ++ bib material and turned it into a waist band.
We'll repeat a bit in case you didn't click on the bib version first. The shorts are made from a single piece of Power Stretch Lycra that fits as if it were painted on, from the waist band down to the integrated Giro ++ ("Giro Two") grippers in the legs.
The waistband is a soft, wide, doubled-over, comfortable piece of Giro++ Lycra. The gripper material is built into the Lycra. When the material is not stretched, you can neither see nor feel the gripper. Stretch the material and it rises out of the spandex. The result is a soft yet confident grip.
The screen-printed reflective Castelli name on the legs is designed to stay forever, as you'd want from any reflective element. The scorpion logos in back let people know what you're wearing as you turn the screws to them in total comfort. The integrated grippers mean the Giro ++ is in the fabric, not a sewn-in or sewn-on-top gripper. You won't see it when you examine the shorts in your hand; turn the shorts inside out and stretch the bottom of the legs and it will start to appear.
Inside is Castelli's Progetto X2 Donna pad. It is sized and shaped for women, not simply a men's pad wrought smaller. This is a three-layer stretch pad that is shorter front to back and wider side-to-side than the men's version. The top layer is soft and seamless bacteriostatic polyester fabric that wicks moisture away from your body. Underneath the top layer is a perforated viscous comfort pad located directly under the sit bones and the perineum to neutralize those high-pressure areas. The final layer has variable thicknesses. It is micro-thin at the edges and increases in thickness en route to the thickest area, under your ischial tuberosities.
The Castelli Body Paint Women's Shorts come in Black. Sizes run from X-Small to X-Large.

- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I'm not a very serious biker, so when my boyfriend told me I needed these shorts, I immediately balked at the price tag. Are you CRAZY, dude!?
Fast forward 2 years and these are still my chamois of choice. The pad is incredibly supportive and there is a MASSIVE difference between this pair of shorts and the cheap pair of Dakine ones I picked up around the same time. They are super comfortable and great for long days in the saddle. Very durable in my experience too. I ride about 2x per week in peak season and these have lasted 2 years now. Very high quality and excellent construction. I wear them underneath my mountain biking shorts, I don't prefer the spandex look.
They fit true to size in my experience, though they are skin tight. I grabbed a size small, I am 120lbs and 5'3"
I will buy another pair when these have to be retired.
These are now my favorite cycling shorts, they fit like a glove and are great for the road and mountain biking. Chammy stays in place, is soft and not bulky. A great buy if you can get them on sale. Good for a slim build if you want a form fitting short.
Castelli Body Paint Shorts
I find these shorts really comfortable, as they have a good padding and the waistband doesn't dig in at all. However, I would not recommend buying these shorts if you live outside of America because I am from the UK and as well as paying £25 in shipping, there was the unexpected cost of £30 to pay to UPS when the shorts arrived. I was aware of the shipping costs, but not the UPS cost on delivery.
Don't know :(
I can't really rate the performance of these shorts because I will not be wearing them. They are pretty transparent! I rarely ride alone and since I don't like the thought of others being able to see through my clothing, I just couldn't wear them. The fabric is soft and looks like the chamois would be pretty comfortable though. Just not for me.
Are these a little "see-through" or is it...
Are these a little "see-through" or is it my imagination? I hate it when I can see the guy in front of me and all his glory smiling at me sideways :)
Oh yeah..... these are very "see-through"!!!! I will definitely be returning these! Sad, because the chamois looks like it would be pretty comfortable. Oh well.
