Castelli's passion for riding extends through all four seasons, and in Italy, where Castelli was born, that means frigid, bitter winters. Its warmest Bib Tights, the Sorpasso Wind, build upon its reputation of Italian design and quality and the result is a winter tight as comfortable as your favorite summer short.
With the Sorpasso Wind bib tights, Castelli has taken everything you love about its Sorpasso winter tight, and made it even warmer and ideal for riding in the Great North. The main panels of the Sorpasso consist of variations of Thermoflex fabric at both the upper front, and legs. The Thermoflex Core Due at the front is a two-layer fabric that keeps warmth near your core while wicking moisture away to keep you dry. The Thermoflex Stretch used at the back and lower legs allows maximum flexibility and mobility to pedal and move while riding.
To create an even warmer tight than the Sorpasso, Castelli cut Windstopper X-Fast panels for the thighs and knees. This is a windproof, four-way stretch with a fleece layer that rests against the skin. It extends the temperature range of the Sorpasso bib tights down to well below freezing. The tights are held in place with Giro++ seamless shoulder straps with a wide Thermoflex back panel — this ensures that cold and wind do not creep in beneath your winter jacket.
The Sorpasso features Castelli's top-of-the-line Progetto X2 Air seat pad. This is the same pad that is found in its best shorts. The top layer was made from a seamless, four-way stretch, microdenier fabric that moves with your body eliminating chafing. To keep your skin happy, it received an anti-bacterial treatment. This layer was bonded to a multi-density foam pad that provides optimal padding for different areas. Sit bones receive denser perforated pads, while softer padding is placed in sensitive soft tissue areas. Getting in those winter base miles has never been so comfortable.
Castelli finished the Sorpasso bib tights with its Giro3 ankle grippers. These keep out cold by sealing around shoe covers. The ankles close with camlock zippers so that they stay shut and are trimmed with reflective tape for low-light visibility.
The Castelli Sorpasso Wind Bib Tights come in sizes Small through XXX-Large in the color Black/white.

I bought these tights to fill in that 40-50 degree range when there is also the addition of strong winds. I have a couple pairs of Polare Tights that are too warm for anything but the coldest days. I also have Several pairs of Castelli knickers that work well into the 49-50 degree range. The Sorpasso Wind Bib Tights really do a great job keeping you comfortable on those days that might start in the 30's but warm up into the low 50's. I wore them on a day that got to 56 degrees and at that point, they were beginning to feel like they were too warm. Fit is good and the Progetto X2 Air is very comfortable. With these bibs paired with my Mortirollo Due jacket, I can ride comfortably for hours.
Castelli clothing has become my new addition and the wind tights fulfilled all expectations. I tend to run a little warm so finding the right combination can be difficult. For that reason, the wind tights I will reserve for under freezing temps and use my non-wind Sorpasso for warmer temps in the 30 to 45 range. The difference is noticeable. On a recent 23* day, I could feel the warmth of my legs as I warmed up, a sensation which didn't leave me for the entire two hours on the bike. Casstelli claims this is the limit for these tights but I plan on depending on these for temps down to the teens. The fit is typical Castelli, snug. The X2 chamois is my only preference for cycling as I have taken more expensive shorts and tights and placed them in storage and said "Good By" to near constant saddle sores. Now the looks, well, you just sort of make a statement when you wear Castelli, bold but not billboard-ish, team kit look. If the quality is as good as other Sorpasso tights, which I would expect they are, than I can expect years of use before they show any wear, as has been my experience.
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
As expected these fit like a glove and the quality is excellent. I wear a L in Castelli bibs/tights and while these were still a L (6' x 160 lbs.) they were slightly more snug than I expected. Probably due to the wind fabric being less stretchy. So how warm are they? I rode today in Michigan 27F with a 20+ mph NW wind and they were fine. I think this is probably close to the lower limit with this temp/wind combo especially when I turned around into the wind...keep in mind the wind fabric is only in the thighs and knees. None the less a quality product and Castelli is spot on with this addition to the Sorpasso line up. I did rate it only a 4 star because I have only used it once.

Just received these today in the mail. The fit appears to be spot on, I ordered a large per the size chart (and super helpful sales rep Christy), I am 6ft 200lbs, 34 waist. These fit as they appear too. I think an XL would have been too big. Can't wait for the cold front to come this week to Texas. With temps forecast for the 40's, these should come in quite handy for my training ride! Why I haven't wore bibs before, I have no idea...super comfortable just wearing them around.
