Climbed the Bighorn mountains, Wyoming, July. Start temp: 74f, Castelli 170 unzipped, over Castelli short-sleeve jersey, not too hot (10-15 mph headwind), the venting works very well. Top of mountain- 60-65f, zipped up, descended 19 miles (5-8% grade, 20-45+ mph) overcast, the wind deflection works very well, especially the outside of the arms. My fingers got very cold, legs needed shaking, etc. The Castelli 170 kept out the wind chill while venting heat extremely well for this ride at these temperatures.
The large is tight on me (180lbs, 6ft) in a good way, the arms are quite long- which I appreciated on the descent as they bunched tight to my gloves, the back-of-the-neck collar extension is cozy and the zipper doesn't leak. Excellent fit and finish. Made in the U.S.A. of all places. Worth every penny.
Red not Orange
Be aware that this jersey is red not orange as shown here.
Love the jersey, well made, MUCH warmer than you would think for as lightweight as it is. The fit isn't as tight as I was expecting after reading others reviews. I'm 5'10, 155 and I ordered a large, and a medium would have been fine. With the large I can easily wear a baselayer under it, but it's not baggy by any means. The ONLY problem I have with it is that the bottom of the zipper has pretty sharp edges and has began to wear holes in my bibs.
Nice stuff. I'm about 6'1 185 pounds and I need the XXL. Its still snug, but it works real nice.
Doesn't hold blood stains either!!

I wore this jersey on a cold morning with nothing underneath. On a steep uphill I was able to use the full zip to air out, while on the downhill the zip and windstopper fabric completely protected me. It breathes under the arms and on the back. I can't wait to try it as the temperatures warm up.
Great quality jersey, excellent wind block and high neck fit. This is one of the best quality Castelli's I presently own. Jersey's run a little on the small size so size up one size. Dealing with Backcountry was a pleasure... very happy
Very well deisgned and functional Jersey. Windproofing on front panels provides extra versatility. Comfortable down to 40 to 45 degrees with a base layer and up to about 60 to 65 degrees all by itself. No longer require a wind vest on those windy, chilly days when the wind and cold would otherwise make its way through a normal long sleved jersey. I'm 5'9'' and 150lb and normally wear a medium, but found a large fit well through the torso (with just enough room for a thin base layer), but just a little long in the sleve which isn't really a problem. Overall very well deisgned piece of kit, that is functional and feels great riding. Enjoy.
How waterproof is the jersey?
How waterproof is the jersey?
It's not waterproof. Windproof yes, but not waterproof.
This is the perfect jersey for those chilly, but not cold days. It's allowed me to leave the jacket at home a few times, and that's nice, especially on those early mornings where you know it's going to warm up later in the day. Fit is nice. I bought a white/red and black/red. Love em!
Castelli has done it again
Yes Castelli has done it again the 170 wind is great run a little tight but you get used while riding.you get just enough air going throughout.
