No frogs were harmed in the making of the Volta.

In a sense, the Capo Padrone kit was an experiment of sorts. It was a bold statement that was fundamentally shaped around its innovative fabric stories and unique construction, without being dependent on overwrought graphical prowess. With the ATS Volta Bib Shorts, Capo spurred that creativity to the next level. They poured on an unabashed dose of racy Italian styling and pulled out all the stops to source the absolute best fabrics and advanced manufacturing techniques in creating an emphatic foray into the market of truly top-tier bib shorts.

In creating a bib short that defied convention, Capo had to completely re-think their design and production processes from the ground up. The goal was to create a garment of superior quality, comfort, performance, and protection, therefore run-of-the-mill polyester or pedestrian blends of Lycra would not be good enough. Thus, the Advanced Technology System (or 'ATS') was born. The idea behind ATS was simple: Capo would create their next generation of ride-enhancing cycling garments by combining the most technical Swiss and Italian fabrics they could find with the most advanced production methods available. You could think of ATS as a bit of Italian mad science; a highly polished experiment in conceptual performance textiles, not unlike the exotic supercars that might grace the show floors of the Geneva Motor Show. Except these exceptional bib shorts go beyond existence as a concept, and are available to the discerning public.

The Volta's ergonomic multiple-paneled construction is actually the same as Capo's top-shelf Drago short, but a Swiss-sourced 40 gauge Lycra was instead selected for the main panels. This ensures a fit that actively supports critical muscles, without delving too deep into compressive territory. Capo has also engineered a new and super comfortable harness-style bib upper exclusively for both the Volta and its big brother, the Drago. These harness straps are composed of a lightweight eyelet mesh bonded to a brushed microfiber, which is then seam-taped and laser cut. The resulting straps are buttery smooth against your skin, and very low profile -- ideal for an abrasion-free and highly breathable fit beneath the Volta Jersey. At the heart of the Volta is Capo's top-shelf Anatomic Strada HD Carbon EIT Insert. In addition to the pad's multi-density anatomic construction, you also get two additional high-density perineal inserts to give more precise support on longer rides. Again, antimicrobial carbon fiber threads are also woven throughout, helping keep the chamois dry and funk-free. For many of us, this can mean the difference between nursing a painful saddle sore, and crossing the finish in first.

Capo finished the Volta Bib Shorts with a Schoeller coldblack treatment, designed to assist your skin with temperature regulation while protecting you from harmful UV rays. Even though both of the Volta colorway offerings feature a healthy amount of black, the coldblack treatment ensures that even under the hottest afternoon sun, the fabric resists heat buildup, and should remain cool to the touch. The laser-cut leg bands on the Volta are infused with a unique silicone treatment to more effectively keep the hem in place while you ride, and also to resist the ravages of your washing machine. Due to the shorts' compressive fit and tacky nature of the silicone, Capo recommends (and we completely agree) rolling the hem over while putting the shorts on, then rolling back on to your skin once you have the bib comfortably situated. The Capo Volta Bib Shorts are available in Black/green or Black/red, and in sizes Small through XX-Large.
