Capo has divided their entire line of kits into three categories: Corsa, Super Corsa, and the top-shelf ATS line. The best-selling SC-12 (short for "Super Corsa 2012") kit rests squarely in the Super Corsa category, as this series offers an intelligent blend of Capo's best fabrics, and most proven fit and construction. The Super Corsa line is also delineated by its significantly streamlined race fit, optimized for longer arms, shorter torsos, and an overall more aggressive riding position. The SC-12 Bib Shorts are more than just a middle-of-the-road short; they represent some of the best technology that Capo has to offer, and in a styling that is every bit as classic as it is race-ready. And who can deny the allure of proudly flying the Italian flag as you triumphantly crest your local climbs?

The SC-12 Bib Shorts follow the contoured construction seen in Capo's top-shelf ATS shorts while simplifying things a bit. There are eight panels rather than ten (or more), three around and one wrapping the bottom of each leg. The bib suspenders are a more traditional lightweight and breathable mesh. The legs are constructed from a high-gauge (HG) Lycra. The material feels dense and three-dimensional in the hand. This feature gives it muscle compression for greater comfort, abrasion resistance for durability, and moisture-transfer so you won't feel like you're bathing in perspiration on hot days. Rather than use a traditional gripper on the leg cuff, the SC-12 utilizes a wide, doubled-over layer of laser-cut HG Lycra with a light silicone treatment to the underside. It's the same careful hem detail that Capo uses on their top-tier Volta and Drago kits. The generous width of the band makes the grip gentle, while the two layers limit stretch and thus hold onto your legs no matter how much they move.

The chamois is Capo's Anatomic-DP Carbon Elastic Interface Technology (EIT) Insert. They use high-density open-cell foam bonded to an anti-microbial micro-fiber layer that has carbon fiber threads woven through it to aid in moisture evaporation. In addition to the slim, movement-freeing shape, there are 6mm and 8mm-thick pads built into the pre-curved profile to better optimize support on longer rides. The Capo SC-12 Bib Shorts come in Black or a Euro-fabulous White. Sizes run from Small to XX-Large.

Questionable durability

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a long term review of the product. I purchased mine 2 years ago. The large fit my 187cm/73kg frame nicely for the first year. But the Lycra started to stretch and now they are so loose that the chamois is not held in place properly.
I should add that I always wash cold and hang dry and have had no problem with bibs from PI, Voler, Assos and LG.
I am a little disappointed by Capo products after another pair of bibs started disintegrating (GS-13) and a couple of items were off in term of fit (Capo Volta). Their stuff looks great but long term durability is questionable.

Nice Kit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was nervous about this size. at 182lbs 5'11 with a 33" waist I went with an XL (only pair left at the time and on sale). They are a little loose at the end but not long and I am happy. They are very light. It is cut very low in the front and does separate with the SC-12 pink jersey I pair with it.

Brilliant and striking

I bought one of the kits in white and I absolutely love the fit and "the look." I've gotten many complements about how sharp it looks. The combination of fabrics on the jersey is great on a hot day; the bibs fit well. I will point out the obvious--it is very challenging to keep the bibs clean as they seem to almost pick up smudges from the wind. I spray them with spot remover/presoak before washing, and most of them have come out.

SC-12 kit and appearance

Sorry for the blurry picture. This is a picture of the full kit, which looks really sweet all together.

I have a 29" waist and am wearing the smalls. You can get an idea of the inseam on a 69" frame from the picture--these seem pretty typical for riding shorts.

These are really good!

These bib shorts are part of Capo's mid-tier line, but these are really impressive. Rather than a silicone bead gripper (which you'll find on the lower tier stuff, like the Serie A), which can chafe or leave marks on your leg, these have proper silicone grippers that are nice and sticky and fit great. The fabric has nice details, too--a very subtle carbon-looking sort of design all over. I got the black shorts, and there's black panels on some wareas and what looks like a dark grey anthracite on others. Very sharp-looking, but not overdone. On a ride I poured water on the shorts and it practically disappeared. No idea where the water went, but it wasn't visible on the shorts and my legs weren't damp. The chamois is not quite as cushy as, say Castelli's, but I'm finding that I actually prefer these because they're cushioned enough and I don't get chafing even on the long rides. The straps are long enough to fit me at 69". If you buy the SC-12 kit, you might want to get a black baselayer. The shorts are cut normally, but the jersey is short so if you stretch at all you'll flash your stomach to the world.

Capo fits true to size, so I wear a small (29" waist) and the shorts fit perfectly.
