Some riders enjoy the challenge of layering properly for a cold ride almost as much as the ride itself. In a nerdy kind of way, it can be satisfying to gear up with your appropriate layers and shells. Recognizing that some riders just want to keep it simple, however, Capo created the Capo Pursuit Thermal Jacket as both a weather-ready shell and an insulating layer, so you can grab it and head off into a wide variety of conditions knowing that you're ready.

The Pursuit Thermal Jacket is part of Capo's Corsa series. This series shows the level of Capo's dedication to all things Italian and cycling, which is why Italian fabrics are used in all of the pieces in the series. The Thermal Jacket is constructed with Micro Quattro Fleece and a Brick windproof membrane. The Quattro fleece has a soft, brushed inner layer that insulates against the cold by holding the warmth your body produces in its fibers. This brushed layer also makes the jacket comfortable to wear next to your skin when you want pair it with a short-sleeve jersey.

The wind-blocking Brick membrane throughout the Pursuit Jacket is what makes it a go-to for winter riding. Though heat retention properties in a jacket are necessary for warmth, the Brick membrane keeps crisp air from penetrating the jacket, and sucking away your body heat as you descend hills and wind your way through country roads.

While the top-end fabrics Capo uses are nothing short of fantastic, the use is nullified if the fit is off. That's why the Pursuit Thermal Jacket's fit is nothing short of impeccable. Using a multi-panel, contoured design, the jacket follows the shape of your body, while following its movements in and out of the saddle, much like the fit of the Pursuit Jersey. A full-length zipper down the center of the jacket is backed with a zip flap to add an additional barrier against the wind. The camlock zip-pull allows for easy ventilation when you find yourself warming up on a climb. The rear hem of the jacket has been elongated to protect you from wheel-spray and infiltrating drafts.

The Pursuit Thermal Jacket has three rear pockets for stashing your nutrition and spare tubes. The pockets are slightly tapered at the hips for easy access to nutrition bars. Reflective elements on the sides of the jersey keep you visible to motorists during early morning and evening rides.

The Capo Pursuit Jacket comes two color schemes — Black/cyan and Black/yellow — and is available in five sizes, from Small to XX-Large.

Fits like a jersey

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

Literally, this jacket feels more like a thermal jersey! It's super lightweight and warm as advertised. My first time purchasing Capo products, and based on the factory size guide, I should be a 'Large' (I'm 5'10" and 180lbs). But it was extremely tight around my neck and shoulders, and very short in the front. I will probably amend this review once I exchange for the XL size and wear it during the winter.
