If your hometown is anything like ours, you spend at least four months out of the year riding in sub- or near-freezing temperatures. And while this makes the indoor trainer rather enticing, the well prepared are able to ride outdoors all winter. How? With pieces like the Capo ISO Neoprene Booties. These covers are the necessary first step in keeping your extremities protected from frostbite, and this is achievable through their wind- and water-resistance.

To achieve the goal of creating an effective barrier against wind, water, and cold, Capo made the ISO booties from the breathable neoprene material. The choice for this was obvious given the intended riding conditions. You'll find neoprene in everything from ski boots to wet suits, and the reason is that the material actually gets warmer when the exterior is wet. However, with the booties' 2mm thick construction, you don't have to worry about water or wind infiltrating the covers. And for added warmth, the covers also feature a micro fleece lined interior. This will not only increase the level of insulation, but it will also wick moisture away from the skin when your feet get nice and toasty.

For fit, Capo relied on its tried-and-true Block System for the entry/exit point. This system reinforces the rear zipper and heel cup by strengthening the seams that they are connected to. On top of that, the ISO follows a minimally seamed design that flows with the natural contours of your foot.

The Capo ISO Neoprene Booties are available in the color Black and in five sizes from Small to XX-Large. Please note that Capo recommends wearing these booties between the temperatures of 35 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, these covers are designed for use with traditional three-hole road cleat systems.

Zipper Failure

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I used these daily for a month. The size was correct (i.e., not too small). I was very careful with them and did like them for cold rides in the 20's and 30's. However, when removing them recently the zipper got misaligned on the right foot and then it disconnected.

I think that this is a common problem with zipper booties. I am going back to my Pearl Izumi quilted velcro booties. They are not as warm but the velcro can't break. I'm tempted to buy some good Assos booties but they are zipper enclosures as well. What is it with the cycling garment industry and their zippers?

If you buy these or any other booties, then I recommend you are VERY careful when putting them on.

Love these Shoe Covers

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had alot of concern buying ANY shoe covers as all the reviews I'd read indicated that they last a ride or two before they start falling apart. I was drawn to these because they're made from Neoprene, the same stuff used to make wet suits. I'm a diver and I realize how water proof and thermal this type of material is. Well, they're AWESOME. I've used them several times on sub 35 degree rides and for the very first time, my footsies are nice and warm. And they're definitely high quality and should last for a long time. Highly recommend.

I used these in 30 degree weather, and they are warmer than anything else I've ridden in. A bit thick, but well constructed.

Warm Winter Protection

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

Commuting in the winter can be tough on your feet here in Salt Lake City, slush, snow, cold winds and sub-zero temps these booties helped my feet to survive the 2014 winter. I used these over a pair of over sized MTB shoes with thick SmartWool Trekker socks and they worked great. They shed the water and slush and didn't allow my toes to turn black from frost bite during those wild cold mornings. Wish they could also protect me from those crazy disrespectful drivers though.

CAPO ISO Neoprene Booties

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These work great with my road shoes and mountain bike shoes. I wear a size XL 11.5 or 12. They fit snug,so if this is your first time purchasing this type of item take your time getting them on. So far they keep the rain out and keep my feet warm. Nice strong zipper on the rear with a velcro closure at the top.The heel is reinforced with what Capo calls the Block System/this is really tuff so it holds up well. From the heel up to the calf of my leg the material measures 9 inches and is reflective.Nice Italian details. And also reinforced in the toe as well. These would make a great addition to any cyclist who spends lots of hours in the saddle and knows what it's like to have top end cycling gear.

My husband wears ordinary sneakers to ride, Would these fit over ordinary sneakers?

Responded on

If you size up, possibly. But keep in mind that sneakers have much wider and thicker soles than cycling shoes and these booties are designed to fit snug around cycling shoes.
