Campagnolo's Super Record rear derailleur is continuously updated to remain at the pinnacle of its mechanical line. With all major brands shifting to electronic shifting, Super Record could have been left in the dust were Campagnolo not insistent upon maintaining equality between the mechanical and electronic lines so that one is not more effective than the other. The latest version of the derailleur, the Super Record RS, received updates that keep it at the top of traditional mechanical shifting.
Campagnolo didn't just give the RS line new graphics, it re-envisioned the movement of the drivetrain. To begin with, Campagnolo looked at the way in which the derailleur interfaces with the chain and cassette. The angle at which the derailleur moves in relationship to the cassette was altered. In doing so, Campagnolo claims that the chain is pulled closer to the cogs for smoother shifts into larger cassettes. It functions with cassettes as large as 29t on the high end. Additionally, the adjustment to the angle means that the chain wraps further around the cassette. This means that there is more chain to interface with the cassette which increases efficiency, as well as the durability of the chain and the cassette.
The previous iteration of the Super Record derailleur involved molding the upper and lower pieces from carbon fiber rather than aluminum. That increased the stiffness by 290%. The RS version further stiffens the body of the derailleur for improved shift performance.
The Campagnolo Super Record RS is designed to work with Campagnolo 11-speed cogs and chains, and Ergopower levers. The maximum cog size in 29 teeth.
