The benchmark.

For years, Campagnolo's Record 11 Ergopower Shifters have been the benchmark against which all other levers have been measured. A big reason for this is their multiple-cog shifting capacity, which allows you to effect up to three cogs on the downshift and five cogs on the upshift for the rear derailleur. While that signature feature survived the redesign, several other key elements of Record shifting have been substantially revised.

The biggest change is that the cable pull ratio for both shifters has been altered. Campagnolo claims that this change results in faster, more precise shifting all around — even while shifting under load. Another change is that a shift to the large ring requires three clicks (with one swipe) and a shift to the small ring requires two clicks with a third reserved for trim adjustment. This means you get to ride all 22 gear combinations with no chain rubbing.

The new iteration of Vari-Cushion silicone rubber hoods incorporate varying densities of hypoallergenic silicone and a waffle pattern on the inside for additional cushion. The external pattern is a return to the pebbly texture of Campy's old ten-speed models, but with a more structured, modern design than the old faux leather look. The tiny bumps provide traction while their surrounding grooves channel water away for an easy grip.

The levers also contribute to a confident ride courtesy of their overall shape, which feels as though it was molded inside a pair of hands. The brake levers benefit from the ergonomic redesign, too, with an improved pivot point and a double curve, so you have equal braking power on the hoods and in the drops.

Record shift levers do make some concessions to Super Record at the material lever, using heavier steel and alloy bits instead of titanium. This results in a weight that puts the Record levers within a wheel length of Super Record, only gaining 6 grams. The Record lever bodies also use a lighter composite than Chorus, so they enjoy some weight savings in addition to the two cut outs on the brake lever blade.

The Campagnolo Record 11 Ergopower Shifters include a full complement of Campagnolo cables and a shim to increase the hoods' bulk as desired. They are only compatible with 2015 Campagnolo Super Record, Record, and Chorus drivetrain components. Compatibility can be confirmed by matching the letter on the body's underside with the corresponding markings on your other drivetrain components.
