The Campagnolo Eurus clincher wheels are lighter than ever before, 30 grams lighter than the previous iteration. And the weight savings comes where it'll give you the greatest performance benefit -- towards the outside of the wheel. The spoke nipples are now aluminum rather than brass. Another change (sentimental, not weight-related) is that the Record-quality hubs have the winged wheel with quick release logo of bygone years. Aside from these two changes, the Eurus is the same great one-wheel-does-all that we'd have on the short list for selection for our own race bikes. In fact, it only gives away 60 grams to and shares many of the same features as the more expensiveShamal Ultra wheels, though it relies on Campy's best quality steel bearings and alloy hub shells where the Shamal uses USB ceramic bearings and carbon fiber/aluminum hubs.

The 24mm front and 28mm rear Eurus rims are machined between the spoke holes similar to what we've become familiar with on the Mavic Ksyrium series of wheels -- Campy removes extra material (to save weight) without sacrificing the structural integrity of the rim. Another noteworthy detail of the rim is dynamic balancing, where an "island" of material near the valve stem is left unmachined to balance the opposing rim joint, assuring you high-speed stability. And the upper bridge of the rim has no spoke holes, saving you the added weight of rim tape while maximizing torsional stiffness.

The rear wheel is built with the same G3 spoking pattern made famous by the Campy Bora. G3 provides a significant advantage over traditional spoking patterns for numerous reasons: (1) You achieve superior lateral stiffness, thanks to the doubling of the spokes on the side where the wheel dish is more severe. (2) You get a better transfer of pedal power, again because the spokes on the right-hand side that transfer the torque have been doubled. (3) Your maximum spoke tension is reduced, with a consequent lightening of the spokes and of the rim sections. (4) You get a better general balance of tension, making for more durable wheels. You'll note that the rear hub uses oversized flanges to increase flex-resistance.

The Campagnolo Eurus wheels are built with ultra-aero bladed aluminum spokes (16 front, 21 rear). The hubs use oversize aluminum shells with aluminum axles and self-aligning bearings. They also employ a freehub body and pawl carrier housed in one single aluminum component to maximize weight savings. They come with Campy's new skewer design. It offers greater clamping force and more security. They are compatible with 9, 10, and 11-speed campy drivetrains. The claimed weight is 1500 grams (front 643g, rear 857g).
