CX11 Carbon Power Torque Crankset

The demands of cyclocross test the body and equipment. And like you'd do specific training to master the dismount, you'll likely want a few bits of specialized equipment for your bike. Campagnolo offers this CX11 Carbon Power Torque Crankset because 'cross racing generally takes place on a race course that narrows the necessary gear range. In simple terms, you'll want the tooth counts on your small and large chainrings to be closer together than what you'd normally run on your road bike. This way you'll be able to dial right into the perfect gear, even if the course changes throughout the race.

The CX11 Carbon Power Torque Crankset looks a lot like their road cranks. In fact, it's a mirror image of their Athena Carbon crankset. Similarly, the CX cranks rely on the Power Torque thru-axle system. This looks similar to other thru-axle cranks, though the design is based on an evolution of their Ultra-Torque design. The spindle is permanently affixed to the right crankarm and runs through the bottom bracket shell clear through to the left side, where a bolt affixes the left crank to the splined stub that is sticking out of the left bottom bracket cup. The design is simpler and thus less expensive to fabricate, in turn saving you money. It does necessitate a Power Torque bottom bracket, where the non-drive cup has a bearing pressed in and the drive-side cup accepts the bearing that is pressed onto the right crankarm.

The rings for the CX cranks use Campagnolo's CART (Cyclocross Advanced Racing Technology). They're hard anodized to withstand the tortures of muddy and sandy courses. There are eight pins on the big ring to lift the chain for upshifting. The bottom bracket is what really sets the CX Crankset apart. Campagnolo gives the bearings a special seal that employs a double lip design to keep mud and gunk on the outside and fresh grease on the inside.

The Campagnolo CX11 Carbon Power Torque Crankset has uni-directional carbon fiber arms and Black anodized chainrings. A Campagnolo bearing is installed on the right arm. The cranks are available with two chainring options -- 50/34 and 46/36. The crankarm lengths are 170, 172.5, and 175mm.
