I love this pack. I was training for a marathon and used it for my long runs so about 2 hours in length typically. It has adequate and well placed pockets for gels, chews or jelly beans. You can squeeze some of the air out of the bladder to get a lower profile on the backpack and that definitely alleviates some of the bouncing on your back. I used this pack for about 4 months and although it was useless in the winter it came through with flying colors when the weather was above 32 degrees. The great construction and durability are typical of Camelbak products that I have used. It is very reliable if not a bit overbuilt.
I recently purchased this product to replace my old, very worn and well loved Octane XC pack which I use almost exclusively for trail running. PROS : Light weight - if grams/ounces count, this one is possibly worth consideration. Slightly larger storage than previous version. 500ml more water. CONS : Constant buckle slippage. Fixed with tape and ladderlocks. Lighter construction means less support in backplate means more jiggling and sloshing of water despite 'improved' baffled bladder. Tube kinking due to clip (pivot point) being fixed to chest strap buckle rather than able to be moved higher up harness independently. Might be able to fix by ratting bits off old pack. "Safety" whistle - maybe one day I'll need it, but every other day when I try to wipe perspiration from my face with my shirt sleeve I have a good go at scratching my face - maybe a pair of scissors will fix this. Key Hook - no idea why they moved it from the central top pocket to the side where your keys can rub and scratch on all the things you need ready access to on long runs. Why would I need ready instant access to my keys until I'm finished running ? NEUTRAL : Mesh side pockets - why ? Solid panel less likely to get snagged on sticks/brush, particularly with pointy keys trying to make an escape through the mesh. Changed filling cover - filling old version by yourself without completely removing bladder was simple. New version nowhere near as user friendly and difficult to fill without removing bladder from pack. Overall very disappointed with what was supposed to be a replacement for a near perfect running hydration pack. Will probably be looking for a replacement sooner rather than later unless a few more custom modifications make it bearable.
I love this pack - I can seriously take it anywhere...it holds enough water to last me quite a long time, yet is small enough not to get in the way...whether I'm going for a hike, jog, or just bummin' around town...this pack is great for all of the above! It's super lighweight as well, and very breathable in the back.
The rubber mouth piece is fragile, meaning a hole appeared after a day of use. Went to buy a new one and was very surprised to see that it costs $6 + tax. Price is not much different if purchased online either. I was angry. I could not return the camelbak. I swallowed my pride and purchase the $6 piece of plastic. Only reason I got this is because it is easier to climb chimneys and go light. I find it hard to believe that the prices for these items are still high for such a poor rubber quality. No, I will not recommend this item to a friend
I am known for being a pack junkie and was very disappointed in the fit of the straps on this pack as a running pack. Even after several adjustments wearing it around the house I couldn't get it to fit well, it never made it out the door. Pros: The pack was lightweight, lots of rooms in thee waist pockets, sweet green color. Looking for a great running pack, check out Solomon Skin Pro Set or S-Lab - pricey, but worth every cent or a Nathan pack.
Originally, I bought this hydration pack to quench my thirst when running, but have found many other uses for it. As a park ranger, I am called upon to do many other outdoor activities such as lead hikes and park clean-ups. I used the pack, so far, on two park clean-ups and was able to stay hydrated the entire time. Many of the people participating in the clean up were envious of my ability to drink water when I pleased, while they had to walk to the water cooler several hundred yards away. The zipper pockets on this pack allowed me to carry bug-dope, my keys, and a few granola bars without fear of loosing them. When I lead hikes this year through the park, my pack will be there with me allowing me to carry essential gear such as CPR, First Aid kits, and bug-dope. I am excited about all the possibilities this pack brings to my outdoor lifestyle. I will be using my pack again on a 12.5-mile canoeing trip this Friday. I am sure those on the trip will be envious of my sweet pack as well. I will never be without a hydration pack like this for the rest of my life. A great product at a great price; thanks CamelBak and Backcountry!
