Reconnect safely.

Take a look at the helmet you wear during multiple-hour, Lycra-clad hammerfests. Now take a look at the lugged frame from the late-'70s that you converted to a single speed for town riding. Note the disconnect between the former's racing style and the latter's casual attitude. Now replace your helmet with the Foldable Helmet from Brooks England's J.B. Collection, and realize that it ties in much better with jeans, oxfords, a chambray shirt, and that well-loved steel frame.

Of course, it's important to note that this helmet's first job is to be a helmet. That's why Brooks put it's design in the hands of Carrera. Carrera's expertise has been focused throughout the years on cyclists' heads, while Brooks — with its iconic line of saddles — is typically associated with, well, other areas. Carrera's know-how shows through, with the helmet meeting CPSC standards with a flexible frame that connects multiple bars of impact-absorbing EPS foam.

When not in use, the helmet compacts to less than 80% of its full size and can be bound by the included leather strap for storage. The strap can also be used to keep your right pant leg out of the drivetrain, so you'll arrive safely and grease-free.

  • EPS foam construction meets CPSC safety guidelines
  • Foldable body reduces to less than 80% of full size
  • Leather strap included to bind helmet when collapsed

Beautiful, but high-sitting helmet

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I was so excited to finally be able to purchase this Brooks Carrera helmet. I grow weary of wearing a road helmet around town, and this one appeared to be far more appropriate for plain, everyday clothes riding for transportation. I expected to fully love this helmet, but that was not the case, sadly.

I liked that the helmet had a lot more holes (breathability) in it than a lot of the bowl shaped helmets for everyday use currently on the market and the color (copper/red) would be a nice choice for most choices in my wardrobe.

What I didn't like once the helmet arrived was the fact that it set very high a top my head. From the photos, it appears to be a similar shape to the many city bike helmets currently available on the market, like those from Nutcase, etc. I just felt it looked as though I was wearing two helmets on top of each other.

Also of some concern to me was the fasten at the back of the helmet. Normally, one can adjust this based on the size of the wearers head, but it was elastic and didn't seem to really do much to secure the helmet to my head.

Sizing seems to be accurate. I am right at the limit for the size medium, and was afraid I'd need a large, but it actually fit very nicely and still had a bit of wiggle room.

Although I thought it was a great looking (at least off my body) helmet, I had to return it.
