Durability issues

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These shoes are incredibly good for what they're supposed to do - they're grippy and comfy. They're padded enough and have enough drop to handle a long and sustained downhill at a good pace, but are still light. The only downside is unfortunately a big one: the sole on this newer model. The outer part of the sole appears to be small panels that are glued on. I had these start falling off after 100 miles or so - and this wasn't a one-time thing. I'm at probably 150 or 200 miles now an I've glued at least 4 of these little panels back on. It's a bummer - based on fit, performance, and fit alone this is a 5-star shoe and I happily went through two pairs of the older model. Unfortunately this is a major design/construction flaw that really affects the lifetime of the shoe (I'd expect 500 miles or so).

Falling apart within two months

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These shoes appeared to be very well made and provide great support in the heel and ball of the foot. The arches are slightly too high, and I've found that I get hot spots on top of my pinky toes after prolonged use (which surprised me as I use these for road running and work and bought them half a size big). Replacing the original insoles with Dr Scholls gels has helped a lot, but they still don't fit me as well as the Asics 2000s. The tread is very aggressive and build quality seemed solid, but they just don't fit as as well as I had hoped.

EDIT 4/3/16: The sole started to separate from the shoe shortly after I put in my first review for these shoes. I expect this to happen on shoes that are a year or two old, but not just barely over a month. Combined with the fitment issues, I'm definitely not going to go for this style of Brooks again.

I would call Brooks and tell them about the construction issue on this shoe. I've found that they have terrific customer service.
