Unless you live in the flatlands of the midwest, you undoubtedly look for every legal advantage possible to make climbing a bit less daunting. Whether you're a racer or endurance rider, you'll appreciate the attention to detail that has been layered on the Boardman Bikes SLS frame. Paired with Shimano Di2 technology, the 9.4S version of the bike does not compromise in strength, stiffness, or weight — or build.
Chris Boardman knows a thing or two about bikes. Having competed and won in disciplines ranging from the Individual Pursuit to the Hour Record, he has applied his obsession with aerodynamics and weight to create a frame that is lighter than the UCI minimum weight — only it's not "for show only." It rides and climbs in the capable hands of professional riders the world over. The SLS frame used in the 9.4 is just one small step down from the ultralight frame, and it only weighs 50 grams more. It features high modulus carbon fiber monocoque construction. This process allows virtually any tubing shape to be created. Additionally, to develop a frame profile that maximizes strength, stiffness, and weight, the SLS was developed using Finite Element Anaylsis. FEA is a process by where specific loads applied by the rider to the frame are simulated but with far greater force. This helps to identify how the stresses and loads are distributed across each component. Using this information, material is placed where it is needed and removed where it isn't. For example, the down tube has been shaped to specifically address strength, stiffness, and weight.
The one-piece monocoque design incorporates a one-piece carbon PF30 bottom bracket and oversized chainstays. This transfers power from the crankset through to the rear drivetrain and wheel so that none of your watts are wasted. Additionally, the profile of the seat stays increases shock absorption and reduces weight of the frame.
The SLS Endurance Racing geometry is stable, predictable, and comfortable for all disciplines from criterium racing to endurance events. The full carbon fork features a blade-like profile for steering precision, as well as to optimize airflow, which increases aerodynamics.
The component package of the SLS 9.4s is the durable workhorse of the Shimano line. Not only does the 9.4s feature a full complement of Shimano Ultegra, including wheelset, it is Di2. This electronic shifting system is one step down from the top-of-the-line Dura-Ace and as such, it has benefitted from the technology developed in its big brother. As Dura-Ace becomes lighter and more streamlined, the changes "roll-down" the line. The Ultegra package is paired with a proprietary Boardman handlebar, stem, and seat post. Because you'll want to ride for hours on end on the SLS 9.4s, the saddle is the comfortable Fi'zi:k Ardea.
The Boardman Bikes Elite SLS 9.4s is available in six sizes from XX-Small to XX-Large and in the color White/yellow.
