From racing, to touring, to commuting, Boardman's CX frames are designed with all the details that make each ride a delight. Boardman used the latest in frame and component technology to create three levels of frames that cater to any rider at any level. The CXR 9.4S is Boardman's mid-level Di2 model -- all the bells and whistles you could want, for any ride or race.
The CXR was developed using the SLR frame as its inspiration. Every tube was meticulously examined and tested to be the most efficient and lightweight as possible. Using the latest Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Boardman was able to test many different combinations of fiber types, fiber directions, resins, and tube shapes to ultimately come up with the CXR frame design. With the main load path in any bicycle running from the head tube, down the down tube, and then through the bottom bracket and drive-side chainstay, Boardman zeroed in on these critical areas to add material where it's needed and remove it where it's not.
The oversized nature of the down tube keeps the steering sharp, with the oversized bottom bracket handling pedaling forces. The material selected for the CXR's frame is an ultralight, high modulus unidirectional carbon fiber, constructed in a full monocoque design. Similarly, the fork was built out of the same predictable, race-tested, and ultralight carbon fiber. The CXR's mold incorporates a one-piece PF30 bottom bracket and oversized, asymmetric chainstays, which assist in both power transfer to the drivetrain as well as increased braking capabilities. Along these lines, the full carbon fork was built with a 1-1/2 to 1-1/8in tapered steerer for increased stiffness and steering precision.
The CXR's fork was designed to be exceptionally stable, comfortable, and to efficiently handle variable wind conditions. Boardman factored in that both the proximity and movement of the wheel affect the fork's ability to reduce wind-resistance, which is why its blades were computer modeled to manage that challenging local flow condition. Because of this, Boardman flattened the insides of the blades and curved the outside surfaces for an enhanced airflow interaction between the fork and wheel.
Additionally you will notice a few details that place the Boardman cyclocross frame at the head of its category. Boardman 'cross frames feature both mudguard and rear rack mounts. You can race on the weekends and ride it to work the next morning. All of Boardman's 'cross frames also feature disc brake mounts.
The CXR 9.4S is complemented by a full Di2 group. The Ultegra 11-speed electronic drivetrain is the workhorse of the Shimano line. Second only to Dura-Ace, Ultegra benefits from the "trickle-down" effect when new technology for the Dura-Ace line is developed. The compact 50/34tooth crankset is paired with an 11-28tooth rear cassette. Together this combination has the right gears to get you through any course or up any climb. For added stopping power under any conditions, the frame is built with Shimano Hydraulic Disc brakes. The CXR 9.4S rolls on Mavic TN319 rims with durable Formula hubs and stainless steel spokes. The tires are the very capable Continental X-Kings in a 35mm width. The handlebars are Boardman's Elite Alloy, while the Elite Carbon finish off the stem and seatpost. You will sit comfortably on a Fi'zi:k Ardea saddle.
The Boardman Bikes CXR 9.4S is available in sizes X-Small to X-Large and in the color White.
