We all dream of owning a quiver of bikes. But for most of us, it's just not practical. Boardman Bikes has designed the CXR 9.0 for those of us who don't want to choose between an on-road or off-road ride. The CXR 9.0 is the entry level build in Boardman's new cyclocross line. It's a little lighter on the wallet, but it still received the same attention to detail as the pro-level 9.8 frame.
The CXR 9.0 features a superlight CXR triple-butted alloy frame. But, like its carbon counterparts, the CXR 9.0 features custom designed tubing profiles. These have been designed using imaging to determine where the forces occur during off-road riding. The oversized downtube lends to stiffness and keeps steering sharp, which is a critical skill on tight cyclocross courses. Additionally, the juncture of the headtube is oversized and tapered for increased steering precision.
Looking to the rear triangle of the CXR 9.0, you'll find that the chainstays are oversized box sections. These assist with transferring power from the PF30 bottom bracket to the rear wheel. The asymmetric chainstays also feature rear disc brake caliper mounts. In addition, the seat stays were designed with a curved wishbone profile. This profile helps to absorb chatter from rough roads and enhances your overall riding comfort.
The CXR's fork was designed to be exceptionally stable, comfortable, and to efficiently handle variable wind conditions. Boardman factored in that both the proximity and spinning of the wheel also affect the fork's ability to reduce wind-resistance, which is why its blades were computer modeled. Boardman flattened the insides of the blades and curved the outside surfaces for an enhanced airflow interaction between the fork and wheel. And like the rear chainstays, the fork also features mounts for disc brakes.
You'll notice a few details that place the Boardman cyclocross frame at the head of its category. Boardman 'cross frames feature both mudguard and rear rack mounts. You can race on the weekends and ride it to work the next morning. The CXR 9.0 is built with the capable SRAM Force 11-speed gruppo. It rolls on Mavic TN319 rims with durable Formula hubs and stainless steel spokes. The tires are the very capable Continental X-Kings in a 35mm width. The handlebars are Boardman's Elite Alloy, while the Elite Carbon comprise the stem and seatpost. You will sit comfortably on a Fi'zi:k Ardea saddle.
The Boardman Bikes CXR 9.0 weighs in at 20.9 Frame only is available in sizes X-Small to X-Large and in the color White.
