Team Elite TE29/Shimano SLX Complete Bike - 2012 $0.00
Item # BMC0007
Light, responsive, and maneuverable, the Team Elite takes full advantage of big wheels, while eliminating some of their inherent drawbacks. If you've been on the twenty-niner fence, now might be the time to climb down and hop on the BMC Team Elite TE29/Shimano SLX Complete Bike.
Long wheelbases, toe overlap, janky geometries and a lack of parts once plagued the twenty- niner. Now that the dust has settled, parts are plentiful, geometries are dialed, and big-wheeled bikes are no longer the investment risk they once were. BMC took their time, investing heavily in both saddle-time and computer feedback to perfect the Team Elite's geometry. They settled on a 70 degree head angle and super-short 430mm chainstays. Because of this, you'll enjoy easy negotiation of tight switch backs, stable handling around high-speed sweepers, and excellent traction when climbing.
The heart of the Team Elite TE29 is its triple-butted, hydroformed alloy tubeset. BMC's iSC (integrated Skeleton Concept) optimizes weight savings, strength, and ride characteristics by using Finite Elements Method (FEM) computer technology. Every 6000 series aluminum tube is shaped to exacting standards; what you get is a frame that reacts to rider inputs like power application, steering, and braking with impeccable efficiency and precision. While aluminum caries the stigma of being a harsh ride, BMC's extra attention to tube shape results in a compliant ride that still takes full advantage of aluminum's positive traits.
As a frame the BMC Team Elite TE29/Shimano SLX Complete Bike sounds blissful, but that's just a part of the equation. Without the right parts a frame is nothing. We set up this Team Elite with choice components like a Shimano 3x10 drivetrain, including an SLX crank, shifters, and derailleurs. Stopping duties are handled by Avid Elixir 3 disc brakes. A BMC Scor MKII stem and handlebar take care of steering duties, while a BMC Scor MKII seat post supports a Scor saddle. Alex XD-Comp rims are wrapped in Schwalbe Rocket Ron and Racing Ralph 2.25in tires and spin around Shimano 529 hubs.
The BMCTeam Elite TE29/Shimano SLX Complete Bike is available in White, and comes in three sizes -- Small, Medium, and Large.

BMC Team Elite TE29/Shimano SLX Complete Bike - 2012
A great bike. the std kit should have been 4 stars, but for the price it deserved 6 ******. Transition from 26 was almost smooth. Major problems, the SLX chainring of 42 is too large. I experimented with 38 and now an XT 40-28 fits GREAT. Also a SRAM cassette goes a long way to improve shifting transitions. Finally I added Easton Haven wheels. This build is lovely, rides great and it is IMHO the best 29 for the bucks.
This may be a bit late to answer your question but unfortunately the Large frame will probably be too big for you. You could get by on it by having the seat very low but the bike would feel very big. I would go with the medium if I were you.
Mostly. Based on other bikes I've had shipped, I'd guess that the handlebars are turned sideways and the front wheel is attached, and you may have to attach the pedals yourself too. And you'll probably have to tweak the brakes a bit too. But it's 20 minutes of work with a 5mm hex wrench, tops.
This is my 1st 29er and I am very happy. I need the most help on the climbs and the 29s really make climbing a lot easier, not easy, but easier. I love down hill speed and the BMC TE 29 screams down hill and it still flicks back and forth on the single track. Very happy, love my new bike! Wish I was on it now.
Rode the bike for about 70 miles now, 20 of which on hardpack snow. Bike feels much faster then my previous 26" MTB and is much much better at climbing. Fork is solid, but not the lightest or adjustable, but functionally works great.
Pros: -Fast and light -Aggressive geometry feels great -Good bike for the price -Stable and handles well -Doesn't feel too long like other 29ers
Cons: -Race tires are very light, but will wear quickly -Handlebars too long -Tire to seat tube clearance is tight, so higher volume tires don't fit (Conti Trail kings 2.2 don't fit) -hairpin turns aren't as easy compared to my 26", but likely worse on other 29ers as this has very short chainstays
Overall, I'm very happy with the bike and already signed up for a 24hour race, 50miler, and off road tri because this new toy makes me want to ride and race more. The few cons this bike has are very easy to correct. For this price point ($1200-1500), I certainly recommend it for XC and an all arounder, but it definitely is built for the former.
Note on size. I'm 5'10 and normally ride L, but these are sized differently and the M is a good fit for me.
Mainly a roadie, but I got this bike to dabble a bit off road. Comes with Shimano's workhorse series SLX drivetrain in a 3x10. SLX is mechanically very similar to Shimano's higher end XT and race level XTR, but a bit heavier at a fraction of the cost. A Rockshox Recon fork is a solid but not flashy part that does the job
The bike has a pretty long top tube compared to others in its range. I'm 5 foot 7 and am definitely on the smaller end of the size Small that i got.
A lot of 29ers I've ridden feel very unwieldy and cumbersome in the size Small (a lot of wheel compared to the frame), but the short chain stays and short stem quickens the handling and make it feel less like a 29er.
My biggest gripe about the bike is the Avid Elixir 3s and their feel/stopping power/noise, but realistically these brakes are way better than anything Tektro you'll usually get in a bike in this price range.
I'd recommend this bike to anyone who's looking to get a solid mountain bike to start with plenty of room to grow into, or someone who wants to try the whole 29er thing but isnt ready to commit a huge amount. I'm planning on getting a new set of wheels this year and maybe switching to some Shimano SLX or XT brakes, but overall its a great bike and I've been really pleased.
Coming from a 26er this bike is definitely on another level. It climbs well and is fast. I am 5'7" and purchased a small which fits perfectly. It has good looks and performs, I really like this bike and recommend it !
I was a bit concerned about the sizing on this bike because BMC sizes (S=17, M=19...)are at least 1 inch larger than other bike makers. However, after reading the sizing from the BMC website, I felt more comfortable ordering a small, I am 5'7" and it fits me fine. Still have about 1" clearance over the top tube. A lot lighter than my old 26". For the sale price, very happy with it.
