From rocky singletrack to endurance races, the BMC Speedfox SF01/SRAM X0 Complete Bike - 2012 has the handling to match its capable build kit. With five inches of travel front and rear, and well-balanced geometry, it will keep its composure across a wide range of conditions, even when you’re starting to lose your cool. And with a SRAM X0 drivetrain and Fox suspension, you can pull it out of the box and rip it, without worrying about pesky upgrades.
The SF01 uses a triple-butted, hydroformed alloy tubeset. BMC's iSC (integrated Skeleton Concept) optimizes weight savings, strength, and ride characteristics by using Finite Elements Method (FEM) computer technology. Every 6000-series aluminum tube is shaped to exacting standards; what you get is a frame that reacts to rider inputs like power application, steering, and braking, with impeccable efficiency and precision. BMC's extra attention to tube shape results in a frame that maximizes weight savings and stiffness.
Stroke is controlled using BMC's patented Advanced Pivot System rear suspension. It's essentially a mini-link rear suspension that creates a floating pivot. The forged aluminum links are purposely short to eliminate unwanted lateral flex, and they provide a union between the front and rear triangles using sealed cartridge pivot bearings. The placement of the upper and lower linkages creates a fine balance between bump sensitivity, stability (resistance to bobbing or effect from rider weight shift), and their desired leverage ratios. And by positioning the floating pivot relative to the chainrings, the APS suspension maintains the efficient pedaling characteristic that world class riders demand from a high-performance trail bike.
The Speedfox offers 120mm of race-ready rear wheel travel damped by a Fox RP2 shock. It's air sprung and has an external adjustment for rebound damping, as well as a lockout switch. The APS rear suspension is active throughout the travel range, accomplished by BMC's insistence on a nearly linear wheel rate. So although you'll get a suspension that is tuned for maximum acceleration and traction, it still yields the full 120mm of travel when you need it. The net result is a bike that soaks up bumps beautifully whether you’re at full gas, coasting, or braking.
The SF01 runs on a full SRAM build kit, from the legendary X0 drivetrain, to the reliable Avid Elixir 9 brakes. Suspension duties are handled by Fox, with a Float RP2 rear shock, and a Float FIT RL fork. Easton supplies the EC70 handlebar, EA70 stem, and carbon fiber seatpost, which is crowned with a Fi'zi:k saddle. The wheels are DT Swiss X1600s, wrapped in Schwalbe tires.
