Campus companion.

Commuting to class is a lot easier if you don't have to worry about unpacking your pannier before you head inside or riding up that punishing hill below campus with all of your textbooks in a backpack. As its name makes clear, the Blackburn Wayside Backpack Pannier doubles as a bike pannier and a backpack, constructed with durable waxed canvas in a classic silhouette that will certainly earn you some style points. The pack attaches to your bike without any mount or hardware, just solid hook-and-loop straps that are easy to take on and off, and it includes various inner pockets to help you keep your gear organized in transit.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

WHY I LOVE: Exactly what I had been looking for, a pack that transforms from a backpack to a pannier! Perfect for the student that rides to school! Like myself :) There aren't a whole lot of products out there like this, but it's also on the less expensive end of the scale for a convertible backpack/pannier. Great look. The canvas seems tough and durable but pretty dang stylish. The design was perfect for all my needs: U-lock and water bottle fit on the outside pockets. Anterior pockets store wallet, snacks, laptop chargers, keys, pencil case, headphones etc. The main compartment has a padded sleeve for laptop and fits a couple books, notebooks, and extra pair of clothes. WHY I DIDN'T LOVE: the backpack wasn't super comfortable. I'm 5ft/115lbs, so the frame was a little big for me. I appreciate a chest strap, and this backpack didn't have one. I didn't get a chance to use the pack as a pannier before returning. This is definitely a cool pack! I wanted to love it. But it's just not for me.
