cages for bottles

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These cages are good looking but I lost a bottle on the trail. "King Cages knock offs" but there inexpensive.

Steel is real!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I think Blackburn could charge more for their steel cages. They appear to be welded in a back alley in Portland by an artisan who also supplements their income by creating works of art to hold your bottle securely to your frame. These cages are not only attractive but equally light.

Jim Blackburn started out in 1977 in Santa Cruz CA making aluminum bike racks and soon his classic aluminum bottle cages. They still have not been surpassed (though often copied).

Compared to the Blackburn "Comp," this bottle cage is stronger (thicker gauge) and made with stainless steel (instead of aluminum).

PROS: 1. Bottles glide in smoothly!!! -yet the design grips really well. 2. This cage will not scrape and mar your bottles like carbon or plastic cages. 3. This cage is strong.

    CONS: none

    A Classic: Sturdy, Durable, Non-Marring

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought a pair of these fifteen years ago for my Merckx Titanium road bike. They look as good today as when I first installed them. Lightweight, durable, and inexpensive, these cages are just about perfect. They also don't mar water bottles like aluminum cages, and the stainless steel is basically indestructible.

The cages hold any water bottle very securely.

They're not carbon or titanium, so there's no bling factor, but if you want a high quality cage that will last forever you won't find a better choice.
