Description

There is no shortage of good floor pumps out there; most are pretty hard to differentiate from one another. Blackburn's AirTower 4 looks like most of them. Looks can be deceiving, though: The pumping performance of the AirTower 4 is a cut above.

Start with the bottom. Check out that base. Stable. Cast Aluminum. It is 240mm x 120mm. The pump stands 67cm tall, giving you a 45.5cm pump stroke through a 39.2mm barrel. You grab on to a 242mm wide, contoured, rubber-covered, ergonomic handle. The handle has storage drawers inside. Great places to stow that pin for inflating rubber balls, a valve extender for pumping up tires on deep-dish wheels, and the "crack pipe" that allows you to pump up your disc.

The pump head is at the end of a 92.5cm hose. The head itself can handle both Schrader and Presta valves and has a locking lever to make sure no air escapes. The head itself can be rebuilt; Blackburn has the spare parts. The gauge is at the top of the pump rather than the bottom for easy eyeballing. Max pressure is 160psi. There is a lifetime warranty on the pump. The color is Silver with Blackburn design logos. The claimed weight of Blackburn AirTower 4 pump is 1797g.

All You Need

Accurate gauge, sturdy platform and a universal nozzle for either Presta or Shrader valves.

    Pros:
    1) Going Tubeless: Easy to install tubeless tires and stan's when using this pump. An extra hand may help, but not necessary.
    2) Price: Super affordable for the quality of pump that you get!
    3) Magnetic nozzle house: Great way to keep your pump and nozzle together vs. having the nozzle flop all over the place
    4) Accurate Gauge: Hard to tell the exact PSI due to the range it goes up to, but with the adjustable target arrow - makes your job super easy

    Cons:
    1) Occasional Maintenance: The pump housing sometimes needs a light lube in order to have it move freely
    2) Magnetic housing: Sometimes comes lose over time, just keep it tight with a slight turn of the hand and you'll be fine.

Overall, best pump I have purchased and I would recommend it anytime!

    Quality pump

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was really looking for a long term relationship with a bike pump. My last pump lasted for years and finally went. I am happy it did as this has been a sweet upgrade. It has a really durable feel with the cast aluminum base. They also designed a really easy to use gauge which makes getting that desired PSI level a breeze. If you have any questions about this pump or any other bike related questions feel free to reach out!

Works perfect for the basic needs

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've used it for both my road and mountain bikes and it works pretty good. Easy to to use and has a good pressure.

    So Far So Good

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Hard to go wrong with Blackburn, have used it for a while now and haven't had any problems. Easy on and off as well as easy to pump. Not much more you can ask for!

Does anyone know how to open the drawer?

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The pump works very well, but I have Enve mtn bike rims that have shorter presta stems, so there just isn't enough to bite with this attachment requiring the shrader converter and it works without any problems.

The only "problem" I have with this is that I cannot figure out how to open the drawer to the handle. It seems like it should just slide out, but I have used a lot of force and I'm sure it can't be that difficult. I'd love to store the shrader adapters, ball needles, stem valves, valve tool, etc. in there, but I can't get it open! That's why the 4 stars...

UPDATE: I suppose I should've just Googled it from the beginning, but apparently the pump I received does NOT have drawers in the handle! The picture BC shows is the pump I received and the picture attached is from Google images. No drawers!

Does anyone know how to open the drawer?

    Hose Leak

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I originally bought the Air Tower 1 and realized that I just needed to spend a little more money if I wanted to get a decently made pump. So, I decided to upgrade to the Air Tower 4, in hopes that it would be exactly what I was looking for.

At first glance, it was. Good pumping capabilities, a decent pressure gauge, and pretty good quality build on the unit. However, when I tested it out, the hose leaked air as you pumped up a tire. Leak seemed to be at the fitting where the hose entered the body of the pump. I messed around a bit to see if it just needed to be tightened or something, but to no avail. I had to send it back and I decided to try a Lezyne after my two subpar experiences with Blackburn. Maybe this was just an isolated issue with this one pump, but I was just a bit disappointed with Blackburn.

This is the one you're looking for

    Pros:
    - Sturdy Aluminum body. This thing will survive SkyNet's J-Day
    - Pumps any tyre in seconds.
    - Has a pressure gauge so you know how much air you're pumping in.
    - Head pump fits both presta and schrader valves
    - Makes you look professional

Cons: it doesn't connect to the Internet (yet..)

    Saved my life

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have use this on my bike only once so I'm not sure if there's more to tell. So far so good. I really like how easy it is to use on my cannondale bike. One time i was suppose to pick up my sister from school, but when i came outside, one of my car's tire was flat. I have no electric pump, nor was it in a condition where i can drive it to a nearby gas station. I ended up using this to pump my car's tire, lmao. Fortunately it worked (although it took a good 40 minutes of pumping)...

    Lifetime Warranty

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have own this pump for 7 years. Pump is efficient and the pressure gauge is at the top where it should be. A couple of times the adapter the has worn out with threaded values destroying it on the inside. Call the manufacturer and they will ship you a new one for free.

Write your question here...How do you switch from one stem type to another?

It can do both with the single head. No switching required.
