Brain meets Bern

No, it’s not shallow and superficial of you to be more concerned about how a helmet looks than how it works -- cover both bases with the Bern Watts Helmet. You gotta look good out there, and this in-demand visored model enhances your cool as you’re going big in the dirt park. It also protects your grey matter when the jump doesn’t go as planned.

  • Sink Fit features a low-profile configuration so the helmet fits around your head instead of resting on top
  • Ten ventilation holes prevent your brains from cooking under the shell
  • Accepts Bern snap-in liners to convert to a cold-weather helmet
  • Complies with EN1078, CPSC, AND ASTM2040 standards for safety

Nice Looking helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I enjoy the fact that this can be a multi-season helmet. I got the Audio liner to accompany it. The only drawback is that it did not come with any goggle clips. I am unsure if they were supposed to come with the product but they only cost around $5.00 separately...not too shabby.

Bern Watts as an all sport helmet

I needed a helmet I could use in the winter for the snow and summer for the whitewater. I love the Bern helmets. With snap in features they work well for all seasons. I used this helmet for a 16 day whitewater trip on the Grand Canyon section of the Colorado river. It fit snug, but shaped to my head soon enough. and the visor was actually functional, not just fashion.
-Here it is in use on Hermit Rapid. Kept my head safe when gravity pulled me out the back.

Love my Bern helmet! Great style and keeps your dome-piece warm. The bill on the helmet is tight. Fits most goggles really well too. Maybe not those huge goggles like the Electric EG2.

Great Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought this for a bike tour of the Pac NW. I put in 5- 80+ mile days, and found it extremely comfortable. I have yet to crash in it, but no complaints so far.

Sick helmet. I use mine for biking and skiing. Taken a couple hard diggers, but kept my safe!

Great-fitting, great-looking helmet!

I recently bought my first helmet for cycling, a Bern Watts matte black helmet. As a retired U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, I am well aware of the need for head protection; however, I never saw a cycling helmet that I would wear in public until I saw the Bern Watts helmet. The XL fits my 7 5/8 head perfectly and is very comfortable which ensures that I will wear it. Oh, did I mention that it looks great! I have even been complimented on its good looks while out riding.
While I haven't taken any spills to test the crashworthiness, and don't plan to, the great looks and comfortable fit ensure that I will have protection should the need arise. The Bern Watts helmet gets my highest recommendation.
Backcountry.com gets two thumbs up for quickly filling my order and giving free shipping. It's the best deal around.

Keep yer noggin safe!

Recently picked up this helmet after buying a new bike and I'm very pleased. It fits well and very comfortably, the ventilation is nice so you don't roast while you ride as well. Bern helmets fit a bit on the small size compared to other brands, but their size chart is totally accurate. I have a 7 1/2 hat size and the XL fits me perfectly.

Haven't hit my head yet (knock on wood), but the certifications are reassuring. As with any helmet, if you have a fall that you think "Wow, I'm glad I had my helmet" ALWAYS get it inspected.

Did you buy the summer liner? I have both summer and winter

Comfortable and versatile

Nice low profile fit, sink fit adds some adjustability. Doesn't feel to heavy for a helmet with fewer vents and more plastic than your typical bike helmet. Visor is short but certainly helps when the sun is high! Haven't ridden with it in really hot weather yet but so far so good on venting.
Certainly nice to have the option to swap out the liner for cold days, as a year round commuter that will come in handy!

Responded on

The liner is clutch. Keeps my dome warm during those cold winter months. Biking year round is where it's at!!

I bought this helmet for a low profile stylish helmet for my bike commute to work. I also plan to use this helmet for skiing. You can remove the padding in the inside to fit a beanie underneath and/or buy the ear pads to keep your dome toasty on a cold day.

Responded on

I use mine for both skiing and biking. You could never tell the difference. I like the ear pads. I got doored the other day! Caught my head off the curb. Good thing I had my BERN!

Matte Yellow - Don't hit me!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I ordered the matte yellow for my commute in San Francisco. It fits perfectly. I feel like I could have sized up but it is no big deal. Now I just need a matte black goat to stick on it.

Responded on

FIXIE PRIDE. Slap a nice goat on there and you're straight. I've never seen a matte yellow! I have the matte grey.

Be Seen and Safe

I opted for this lid in the Matte Neon Yellow and it fits really well (used the sizing chart) and it makes me feel safer since it is so visible. I do like the matte finish which keeps the sheen to a manageable minimum that I believe will wear well over time.

GREAT LID, Comfortable.

Its a very comfortable Helmet. it's secure and has great protection. I got it this winter and wore it while while repairing some jumps. on warmer days it did git a little warm but it was fine while I was riding just got a bit warm when I was digging. it is not as light weight as some of the other dirt lids but it does feel good.

Great helmet.

Awesome helmet. Fits great and comes with quality padding.

High Quality Dirtlid

Comfortable, durable, and decent venting (I've even done a few xc rides with it without getting too hot). I'd definitely recommended this over Bern's helmets with the cloth visors.

Sizing Info: I usually wear a Large in Specialized, 661, and Giro, but I got an XL for this one because I thought it was more comfortable.

Bern Watts

This weekend I was using my Bern Watts Helmet at the Bike Park in Park City and I was super impressed how well the Sink Fit feature works. Charging berms and features can rattle your cage a bit and the Bern Watts feels secure and right at home on your dome.

Fixed on this helmet

This helmet is awesome I ride a fixed gear in reno, nv and it's nice and cool with this helmet on. Thanks huck n roll

Sweet look but not for big heads

I just ordered this helmet in XL (the EPS foam model) and it still isn't big enough. It starts to fit well without all the padding inside but then you get the velcro patches sticking you in the forehead. It's unfortunate.

Great Helmet, Great Site

I got this not too long after I found my bike came out of the air and cracked my Giro helmet. I wanted one that didn't look all spaceship like and this one looked pretty tough. I was also looking at the Fox Flux. I got this one in a quick amount of time. I put it on and found that this is a little heavy. Looks good and feels like a batter's helmet. The matte black is killer, but it is Soooo hot in the summer heat. I find that I have to press on the back to allow some airflow in the front and that feels awesome. that is my only complaint, no front vents. The ones with a cloth like brim so have front vents, but don't look as cool. I ride until there is too much snow on the ground, so I am looking forward to the cooler season. My wife wants to wear my helmet each time we ride. I will buy another one of these should I endo again and need a new helmet.

Is this a multi impact helmet? Also would...

Is this a multi impact helmet? Also would this be a good helmet to get for both mountain biking and snowboarding combined. If not what would be a good helmet for this? Thanks

Responded on

While many of the Bern helmets are rated as multi impact helmets this one is not. It is constructed with EPS foam which is good at absorbing many little hits but should be considered compromised if it sustains a large impact. You would want the Bern helmet with Brock Foam to get the multi-impact rating. However the Brock Foam does not meet CPSC standards for action sports helmets

Responded on

To clarify a little: the EPS helmet is designed to save you from one potentially catastrophic fall and then be thrown away. It is not designed to take lots of moderate hits without degrading.
