Hard to top.

With only 37 grams separating it from the more expensive, lightest helmet in Bell's line, the Volt RL Helmet is one of the best combinations of low weight, ventilation, and price in the industry today. On top of all that, the Volt RL's body is also strong enough to, with the inclusion of a visor, serve as a mountain bike helmet. Unless sponsor obligations compel you to wear a different helmet, the Volt RL is hard to top.

The helmet's low weight and trail-worthy durability stem from Bell's In-Mold construction method. In-Mold consists of melding the polycarbonate, outer shell with the EPS foam of the helmet's body in order to increase impact absorption and structural integrity. The technology appears in various iterations across the industry because it works, pure and simple, and when it comes to safety, the reassurance of such a broad consensus is also hard to top.

The lightweight Kit webbing used for the Volt's straps resists absorbing sweat, so it stays cleaner and doesn't gain weight during the course of a long, hot day in the mountains. The sweat wants to evaporate. Let it. The straps' job of shrugging-off sweat is made easier by the StreamJet ventilation system. StreamJet uses 22 vents to feed refreshing air into a series of internal channels that shuttle relief across your head and then expel the heat through rear exhaust ports.

The Volt RL also enjoys the inimitable fit of Bell's Twin Axis Gear (TAG) fit system. TAG uses a standard rear dial to adjust the circumference of the helmet's fit, and it also moves up and down in order to accommodate your occipital lobe. That's the bump we all have on the backs of our heads whose size and shape varies widely and that most other helmet manufacturers just pretend isn't there. Bell finishes the frame's arms with a soft rubber casing. The arms are also positioned a little higher than usual, which makes for an easier time getting your glasses on without dismounting as you roll over the summit of a climb to start the descent.
