On a certain level, the only difference between a road race and a cross-country mountain bike race is the dirt below the tires — the basic idea is still to push your cardiovascular limit as much as possible, at the right time, to cross the line first. For that reason, the Bell Event XC Helmet is identical to the standard Event road helmet, with the exception of a repositionable visor attached to it to block out the sun, push aside branches, and fend off a bit of mud and dirt that may rain down after being kicked up by the rider in front of you.
The Event helmet is made of a lightweight foam with an In-Mold polycarbonate shell, a unified structural piece that absorbs shock and protects your head better than simple joint molding, as you'll find on most less-expensive helmets. The Event uses Bell's TAG (Twin Axis Gear) fit system so you can dial in the right fit along two different adjustment points: the diameter of the retention system snd its position in the helmet, so you can adjust the helmet to your head and not have it sit tilted too far forward or backward. The Overbrow ventilation system helps pull cool air into the front of the helmet and push warm air out the back, keeping heads comfortable, even on hot days.
