Perfection, perfected.

If you were told that Zeiss, the maker of the best photographic lenses in the industry had partnered with Assos to design a sunglass lens, you'd be intrigued — right? After all, Assos is known for its attention to detail and for perfecting what others deem already perfect, and Zeiss is the best at engineering optically perfect lenses. The partnership created the Zegho eXploit Sunglasses with Gold Lenses— unabashedly, perfectly designed and engineered sunglasses for the most daring lovers of Assos gear.

Unlike many cycling-specific sunglasses that cut off peripheral vision, the eXploit feature a full 180 degree field of vision. They are 17cm across and a full 6cm tall at their widest point which makes you feel like you are in the action rather than looking at it from behind a face mask. the Zeiss lens features zero optical distortion which Assos abbreviates Assos zOd.Tec. This is a bit of an engineering feat due to the compound curvature of the long lens. Assos chose to use polyamide for the lens because it's lighter, more flexible, and more durable than polycarbonate. It has excellent optical quality and significantly better impact resistance as well. They have been certified Optical Class I by Certottica, the Italian standards agency.

The compound curve of the lens is the result of Assos optimizing the fit of the Zeghos. The curve was engineered to match facial structure. Additionally, while wide around each eye for maximum protection from light as well as debris, the lenses are minimized in other areas to keep the weight low and to incorporate ventilation which reduces the likelihood of fogging.

The Gold lens incorporates a flat spectrum and a gold component. As a result, it absorbs short wavelengths, which, in turn, enhances the colors and contrasts of your surroundings. This way, the intricacies of the road are more apparent. Assos does not utilize photochromatic lenses. Assos asserts that, because of the eXploit's lens coloration, it features a slightly higher light transmission — 18% to be exact. And, as a result, makes movement from light to dark easier on the eye and does not require lenses that change tint.

Additionally, Assos made a conscious decision not to polarize its lenses. Whereas polarization is essential in water sports, Assos feels that being able to recognize water hazards while riding, especially, while racing at high speeds is essential to avoid a spill. For that reason, none of its glasses feature polarized lenses.

While you are riding in wet or grimy conditions, it's important that you're able to see out of your lenses. The Zegho employs Ri-Pel. This is a Zeiss coating that hardens the lens, smooths the surface, and is transparent as to not alter the light transmission percentages. And with this coating, the lens is also anti-smudge, anti-static, chemical-resistant, easy to clean, hydrophobic, oleophobic, and more durable.

And while the lens makes up most of the Zegho, the arms and nosepiece hold it to your face, and Assos decided to revisit all the conventions and improve them. The first thing that you'll notice is that the arms are long, thin, and flexible. They capture your head shape softly, but confidently. Assos calls this Zeropressure, and it works because they wrap well past the ears. Likewise, the nosepiece is flexible, but has a sub-structure that is able to be bent to a general shape. The points of contact are covered in a sticky rubberized material that Assos calls clickFace. Essentially, this holds onto skin, even when sweaty. There are also mounts at the ends of the arms for an included elastic strap if you're looking for even more security.

The Assos Zegho eXploit is available in one size.  It comes with a gold lens and an exclusive Black and Gold striped frame. Assos recommends cleaning the lens with water and mild soap. Shake to release excess water, and use the included micro-fiber cloth to dry and polish.
