lean, mean, and ready to race.

Developed in conjunction with Assos' Werksmannschaft factory team riders over the past six years, the all-new T.equipe_s7 Bib Shorts stand as a testament to the Swiss brand's dedication to race-tuned perfection. So, to all who've ridden in the legendary FI.13, these build from their proven platform. There are four new "mission-specific" models of bib shorts within Assos' technical-feature-laden _s7 lineup, with the T.equipe _s7 aligning itself as the low-volume race-fit option. Six patents and nine innovations later, a new level of technological firepower has officially been unleashed on the world of cycling apparel design.

The main Assos-specific textile that makes up the paneling of the T.equipe_s7 bib shorts is called Type.439. This fabric is used for the five low-volume panels of the T.equipe_s7, as it's incredibly comfortable and supportive. The material provides exceptional breathability, and it rapidly transfers moisture to its quick-drying outer surface. Additionally, this smooth fabric provides a moderately compressive hold, which, in turn, supports the muscle groups of the legs. As a result, these muscles are partially shielded from the fatigue-inducing effects of muscle oscillation that are derivative of road vibration. Prototypes tested by Assos' very own Werksmannschaft (the Assos factory team) riders proved to Assos engineers that this exclusive textile provided the ideal blend of compressive support and low weight. And like the other fabrics composing the rest of the _s7 bib shorts line, Type.439 was finished with an iceColor application, which is similar to Coldblack cooling technology in that it effectively reduces surface temperature in dark fabrics. A cool, dry, and fresh feeling is the result, which complements your body's fully supported lower half.

Assos engineered these bib shorts to provide a slightly asymmetrical compressive hold that stretches more around your body, rather than vertically. This tuned stretch works to firmly secure the shorts in place while down in the cycling position, feeling more dialed while sitting in the saddle than while standing upright. This feeling has long been known to Assos' devoted followers as the signature "click on" fit. This Advanced Ergonomic Pattern Design (AEPD) fit is ever-present with the _s7 line, and it's been further enhanced by its new Y7 bib strap design. While the _s5's straps were spot-on from a comfort perspective, this latest generation's straps have been moved outward in the front slightly for better support. For example, while positioned over the hoods or down in the drops, traditional bib straps generally create a gap away from the torso between the collarbone and upper hips. But by aligning the straps outward, more along the obliques, the straps hug the torso, mimicking the body's movements without any gap, regardless of on-the-bike positioning.

And now for the core of the T.equipe's technological dominance: the chamois. First, as with all of the _s7 collection, it wears the new amethyst color. According to Assos, this purple hue was chosen to pay homage to the clothing of Roman emperors, English monarchs, and members of Japanese aristocracy, as the historically-significant color highlights what it calls the "most technically advanced cycling shorts on Earth."

As one of the top-end chamois within the _s7 line, it received the bulk of Assos' technical innovations to emerge from its extensive product testing. The engineers began with an 8mm-thick memoryFoam material. This was first introduced with the venerable _s2 FI.13, as its shock absorbing composition returns to its original position, "filling the gap," every time pedaling position is changed in the saddle through the shift of weight. The memoryFoam features multiple layers, with its superAir and waffle composition making up the first two. This perforated design works to increase breathability and to shed weight. Additionally, this dimpling, combined with the ultra-soft microfiber top sheet, effectively pulls moisture from within the layers below, which allows it to dry much quicker than the previous _s5 chamois. Once Assos got the chamois layup to their standards, the engineers began rethinking the way a traditional chamois is attached to the shorts. This led them to what they are calling the "goldenGate," which involves interrupting the stitching along both of the chamois' side panels, allowing a more "three-dimensional" freedom of movement in this sensitive, rotational area. Additionally, because the seams are eliminated, friction is minimized even further. But if that weren't enough, Assos went ahead and extended the chamois' thinly-padded sides over this short-to-chamois junction, making the transition against your skin as smooth as possible.

The Assos T.equipe_s7 comes in a claimed weight of 168g, which is the second lightest of the four new shorts in the _s7 collection. The leg panels were finished off with new low-volume, calibrated-stretch superFlat grippers to keep the cuffs securely in place, and small Assos logos accent the shorts throughout. They are available in seven sizes from X-Small to TIR and in the color Black Volkanga.

Third time and BETTER

This is my third set of Assos bibbs and they just keep getting better and better. I finished the 80 mile test ride yesterday and my legs seemed to have a new retained life from the compression. There were absolutely no friction spots and you don't know just how it feels to end a ride with a "happy end."

My respect and continuing support for an outstanding bib.

Well worth the cost

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Cannot imagine a more comfortable, well-fitting bib short. This is my fourth pair of Assos bibs (two S5 Unos and one S5 Mille in advance of this purchase) and it compares most favorably to its predecessors in terms of its comfort on short jaunts and day-long rides. Admittedly this bib is costly. However its construction, fit and comfort really put it a notch or two above other upscale bibs (Castelli, Pearl Izumi) that I've owned over the years. In a nutshell it is the bib equivalent of flying First Class. Treat yourself to a pair. You won't regret it.

I am 6' 4" and 210 lbs. and own a pair in the XLG size.

I'm hooked

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is my first Assos bib, bought to use for 65-100 mile rides. I decided to try the equipe and did a 20-mile commute for my break-in. Got a little chafe on inner thigh and started to worry. With a 85-mile ride in 2 days I was looking at going back to my tried and true PI bib (which is fine but the chamois isn't fun after 60 miles). I decided to roll with it and got some Chamois Butt'r to lather both the chamois and my skin with. After the 85-miler, not even one hint of chaffing. The pad never let my sit-bones worry me and as the day wore on, the overall design of the bib never had me thinking about sweat or the heat. Everything stayed in place. The straps were fine, no issues; and the leg grippers never moved. I'm looking forward to more rides with the bib; it will be tough to not grab it every time out!

With a few big 100+ rides coming in the next 2 months I am looking at the cento as well. For washing I just placed in washing machine on delicate with a touch of baby detergent and then hang dry. Do this after each use and you should have no issues (just avoid additional items with velcro or loose zippers).

The Best I've owned

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

What a relief- the fit (extra room where it counts), the fabric fits in all the right directions. Of all the bibs I used over twenty-eight years on road bikes, the Assos are a short I can say hit five stars in all ways. I will never buy any other short again. I'm 5'7", 140 and the medium are perfect.

Assos Bib Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This was my first Assos purchase so I didn't know what to expect. I put them on. You could just tell... they fit. Great. They felt. Great.
Yes, they cost a bit more. But in this case, you really do seem to get what you pay for. They just felt right. I'm 5'11 about 164 and got the large.

Sizing and Accent Color

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

No need to gush about these bibs, all that's been well covered by the other reviews. I will, however, provide some sizing info to hopefully guide you to the right size.

I'm 6'1", 160lbs with a 31" waist. For me, Assos medium is a great fit, although I wouldn't want to go any smaller. As with all Assos garments, expect them to feel a little odd if you're just standing around in it, but assume your riding position on the bike and you'll find that they magically fit like a glove.

One final note, you'll find that the edge of the cuff on the S7 is color coded based on the model. The T.equipe features a lavender accent (same color as the chamois) on the bottom of the cuff which is barely visible in the product pictures. If this is a show stopper for you, the other models each feature a different color.

outstanding bibs

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The price was a deterrent. Once I bought a pair and rode in them for 60 miles ; I ordered two more pair. The chamois has a gap in the sides that concerned me until I put them on and discovered they were comfortable. I find Assos quality to be unsurpassed and this item certainly meets expectations. I am 5'10"; 160lbs. and the medium is right on. Highest recommendation.

I'm 5' 10 3/4" at 155lbs. Seems I'm between the medium and large sizes. My prior go-to bib was the S5 Uno, medium fit perfectly. Any assistance with the T.equipe sizing would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I am just about exactly your size and the mediums fit great.

It's Assos. Expect the best.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had a ton of experience with the S5 bib shorts, getting my first pair of Uno S5's around 6 years ago. Besides the Uno S5, I also have the FI.13 S5 and Mille S5's. I love them all. Comfortable, perfect fit and the chamois, oh my the chamois. The S5 chamois was revolutionary. The foam did not pack down, the comfort level was unparallelled. The S5 chamois was unbeatable for years and I have been hard pressed to find another chamois that compared. With the S7 series, Assos did exactly that. The new S7 chamois and bibs are even more comfortable and well worth the investment. Treat yourself and grab a pair of the some of the best cycling apparel in the industry.

The Best Gets Better.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

In fit, these bibs are comparable to the previous generation's Fi.uno and Fi.13 bib shorts. I notice the following major improvements:
The bib straps use less material, and sit flatter and closer to the torso. Airflow is better.

The chamois has more front coverage than most bibs, and a cupped shape to keep pressure to a minimum. The chamois is only stitched to the short at the front and back, reducing friction against the skin.

The leg gripper is a wide elastic band with grippy silicone dots. It does not leave a red groove in the leg, nor does it shift around like some of the wide fabric grippers. Very refined.

Fabric, fit and construction are top notch as expected. Past assos bibs have looked and felt like new after 2-3 years of weekly wear. I expect the same from these.

Upping the bar, again.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Fantastic. I own a set of Uno_S5's and thought that I had some of the best bibs on the market, until I received these shorts. The new design of the Chamois is so comfortable, and these have more compression than the Uno's. I also have lost weight and downsized to a L in these, but my XL Uno's still fit really well. The new strap design is beyond comfortable, and I can actually wear them without baselayers, where the Uno's definitely work better with a base layer between the straps and nipples.

Most Comfortable Bib.....Ever

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

For far too long, a pair of bibs has just been that to me...another pair of bibs. Any brand, any bib, throw it on hop in the saddle and deal with it; a bibs. Then I made the mistake of putting on a pair of Assos T.Equipe bibs.

After one ride, I was certain my other bibs were made of sandpaper. The T.Equipe is without a doubt the most comfortable thing I've ever worn. I honestly hardly feel like I'm even touching my saddle, and chamois creme is hardly needed.

Sizing was spot on, on 5'10'' 160 lbs. and the medium's are a comfortable fit. Could likely fit the smalls for a tighter fit, but for an endurance bib I'm riding great in the medium.

Invisible -- mdivall@backcountry.com

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am typically pretty forgiving when it comes to bib reviews. As long as I can do a long ride with minimal discomfort, I am happy. The Assos s7 Equipe opens up a new world of bibs and chamois. Between the waffle cut chamois, the Golden Gate stitching, and the incredible materials, it is easy to forget you're wearing anything at all. These bibs are so comfortable you forget about any issues you've had with other bibs, and it makes it difficult to go back to the others.
I am 6'2", 180 lbs and wear the Large. It is snug, but fits me well. I like the new lower cut in front with the bib straps moved outside a bit. Makes several things easier to do with bibs on.
If you have any questions, shoot me an email at mdivall@backcountry.com and I can set you up.

Regretting having to put on my custom ki

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My junk will never be the same. Its now been coddled and protected is ways never before felt in a pair of shorts. I only have about 50 miles on these bibs and I'm not looking forward to having to wear something else while I wash these or put on my custom team kit. In a word, these bibs are PERFECT. I'm 5' 9" and 190 lbs and the XL fits like a glove. From the fabric to the super soft shammy, I can definitely say the Assos reputation is deserved, even in this lower priced short. I love them. Simply, I highly recommend them. Hit me up directly with Assos questions! btowery@backcountry.com

How does Assos bib short sizing compare...

How does Assos bib short sizing compare to Castelli aero race bib shorts?

Best Answer Responded on

Castelli are smaller for their size than Assos. If you're a Large in Assos, in general you'd be a XL in Castelli.

I'm an Assos man, but disappointed...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Look all the bibs I own are Assos, previous styles were great, but I'm a little disappointed that the new styles have lowered the front and sides of the bib. Just doesn't wrap around and support list previous....my only issue...improvements in chamois, compression in legs....6'1 and 186, xl fits fine in race cut, large fits great in the long distance one.

Responded on

Thanks for your note on sizing (helpful). The only other comment I have is that I -like- that Assos lowered the equipe_s7 bib in the front and sides. Many top companies (Castelli for example) cut their summer/race bib shorts this way. I don't need or want material in the front or sides for summer riding. I want to ride as cool as possible. A low front keeps my torso cooler plus it makes it -much- easier to adjust the package.

Like wearing nothing at all, he says...

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My brother is 6'1 and 190 lbs and fits in an XL. He initially tried on a L based on the size recommendations and while it fit it was a bit restrictive due to his long torso.

He mentioned that they feel great and have good compression. The chamois is comfortable, and that the quality is amazing. Opening the box is an experience in itself, and while he has yet to take them on any long rides, they seem to be light years ahead of his basic Pearl Izumi Attack Shorts.

Like a magic trick!

  • Gender: Male

Used these on race night at the local bike shop group ride the other night. First off, these are my first pair of Assos bib's. Upon getting these in the mail, I was quite impressed with the packaging. Equivalent to how Apple boxes things. Nice! Like an excited school girl I ran and threw them on. My first thought was "Why the heck did I just pay so much for these?!!" They feel awful compared to my Pearl Izumi bibs. Don't get me wrong the chamois felt amazing to the touch but the bib's just didn't seem to wear well at all walking around. Slightly worried, I wore them to ride in that evening. Then a thing of magic happened! As soon as I got on the bike, these things disappeared under me! I couldn't believe how AMAZING they felt! The ole meat and tators were fantastically held in place and were never pinched or felt awkward. The straps, now positioned wider, felt so good in the bike position. The chamois lived up to all the reviews I had read before about the Assos quality. Really impressive. My favorite feature was how well the leg bands felt. No riding up or digging into me. Once on, they were locked into position. I never once had to pull or tug at them. I even found myself looking down trying to see if they would move. Excellent! Now the (I'm sorry, it's pink Assos!) amethyst leg band stripe may not be for everyone. Maybe a black sharpie would work. I however didn't mind at all considering how good the leg bands felt. I am built like a tour climbing specialist. At 5'4'' and 115lbs the small is what I ordered based on the sizing chart and it fits just right. I suggest saving up and getting these instead of settling for something close. They really do feel amazing on the bike!

Perfection..finally

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've finally found the most comfortable bib shorts after years of wearing countless other brands (rapha, specialized, gore, and more). I've ridden these a few times now and they are superb. I also have a pair of the Cento (thicker chamois) and prefer these with their lower volume chamois as my "go to" shorts - the Cento are super comfy but they are overkill on shorter rides. As for sizing: I'm 5'9" and 180lbs (working on that!) and the large is spot on perfect. I didn't understand what was meant by the "click on" fit of assos but standing/walking in these does feel a bit odd whereas being on a bike makes the fit as a second skin. I'm sold on Assos now and plan on replacing all my shorts and knickers with Assos.
