Many of us opt to ride glove-less during the summer months due to the natural dexterity, sensitivity to road feedback, and cool feeling that naked hands are able to provide. However, there are situations when gloves are a must. Both racing and long days over harsh roads are a couple of scenarios where the added support and coverage that gloves provide make all of the difference in how your day turns out. After all, time spent off the bike healing mangled palms is never worth the trade-off, which is why Assos designed its new summerGloves_s7.

The Summer Gloves are a refined version of the Assos' popular CYC gloves. They provide the signature level of quality, comfort, and durability that you've come to expect from Assos but, in typical Assos style, several updated design features have been incorporated. The airy mesh see-through padding is still present, although it's slightly denser and placed in more optimized locations to better soak up road chatter. Lightweight, stretchy back panels conform to your hands for a full range of motion, with mesh panels between the fingers providing breathability and a light, nonrestrictive fit. Closure is handled by a slip-fit cuff that follows the contour of the forearm at the underside of the wrist.

Light and Airy

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These gloves are so light and airy it feels like you have nothing but padding attached your palms! Great for really hot days. Quality is top notch and what you would expect from Assos. Not sure on the sizing, followed the chart and went with XL but wish I had gone with L for a little bit more snug fit.

Look nice, feel terrible!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I want to love these gloves, I really do. They do keep your palms cool with the mesh design and I love that they don't have hook and loop closure. They do take some wriggling to get on, but that is expected without the velcro. Here's the major design flaw: There is a very large seam at the exact spot where your hand presses against the hood. I rode with them for two hours this morning and was in pain from start to finish. I can't keep these, unfortunately.

Worthwhile Upgrade

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just got these and wore them on a quick errand trip to test them out. Can't speak to durability yet, but so far so good. I usually wear gloves on any summer ride, especially longish (for me) 20-50 milers, for the extra padding and grip (I sweat a lot, even my hands). What I immediately like about these is the design - the lack of velcro, the lightness/breathability of the fabric, comfort, and looks. Padding in all the right places, too. Looking forward to giving these a real test, but I can already tell I'm going to like them. Usually a women's medium, bought the men's small and they fit great.
