Assos stingerCap 607 $58.95
Cold brains make bad decisions.
This is old-school head protection with a modern twist. Back in the day, serious bike riders were always helmetless. In summer months, the cotton cycling cap functioned as a sweat mop and sun protection. As the summer turned into fall, cyclists would head off to the nearest Army/Navy store and pick up a wool 'watch cap,' a simple knit hat that was basically a bucket, and roll up the bottom to reduce the diameter, improve vision, and give the ears and forehead a second layer of protection. The Assos stingerCap 607 is that hat, only smaller, thinner, and sized for a more precise fit.
Thanks to the Assos RX fabric, the warmth is still there, but the bulk is missing. That's a good thing, too, as few of us venture forth without a helmet these days, and a thin layer that can fit between the brain bucket and skull is a necessity. Now you have a better looking, better fitting headwarmer that can handle sweat and cold simultaneously.
Assos considers the stingerCap 607 as part of climaRange 5, though we expect most will only start breaking it out when the temperature is in the low 40's Fahrenheit. The stingerCap comes in Black, Red, and White. Sizes are 0, I, and II.

Warm, looks good
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Like the fuguCap, this thing is also surprisingly warm and works great when the temperatures are in the 30s.
The pictures don't show this, but the lower band that has the tiny Assos logo in the front actually flaps down. In all of the pictures here, it is folded up. (But even when folded up, my ears are still covered.)
Also like the fuguCap, this one seems to run a bit small.... my head isn't the biggest and I had to order size II.
