Assos SS.13 Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men $268.95
A legend is born
Like life itself, few indisputable truths exist in the world of cycling. The good news, though, is that a few truths do indeed exist, and one of them is this: Assos is singularly responsible for the existence of high-end cycling apparel. Without the creativity and fashion sense embodied in piece like the SS.13 Short Sleeve Jersey, we'd all be riding in rough-hewn, six-panel shorts and that jersey with the frog on it. With Assos, not only can we ride in extraordinary comfort, but we can stop mid-ride at the coffee shop, and hold our heads high as we click-clack past the table full of feverishly-gossiping, macchiato-sipping college kids. Thank you Assos. You make us feel like men.
As Assos has grown and refined its clothing line over the years, it has been methodical about its work. 2002 and 2003 were spent perfecting the bib shorts with the S2 and the FI.13 models. 2004 and 2005 were spent creating a winter clothing line so technically advanced, versatile, and jaw-droppingly stylish that it puts the entire ski industry to shame. 2006 and 2007 were the years of the short sleeve jersey. In 2006 Assos took bold steps forward with the introduction of the FI.Equipe jersey. And 2007 brought the metamorphosis of the Uni into the SS.Uno. Now, we have a new jersey that's positioned as high on Assos' ultra-high-end podium as the S2 bib shorts -- the SS.13.
The heart and soul of the SS.13 is Assos' use of 'Stretch-Stop Panel Framing,' where key segments of the jersey are purposely made of inelastic material. Through its inelasticity, the jersey gets a much-needed stability on your body. Throughout the middle of the back, a breathable '3D Sensomesh' panel supports SS.13 and prevents it from stretching vertically. Think of this panel as a frame or a support -- it prevents the whole jersey from sagging. The new system is more comfortable, it looks like a million bucks, and it makes inserting/removing gear from your pockets much easier. Two other crucial details on the SS.13 are a collar that's lower than the SS.Uno, and the shortened elastic around the arms.
Keep in mind that the SS.13 is made in Assos' AEPD II design, which means one thing: When you stand up in the SS.13, it pulls upward at your belly button and the shoulders will feel tight. The idea is that the combination of Assos' new material and riding-specific cut will 'click' the jersey into place on your torso when you reach for the bars. Don't judge the fit by trying it on in your bedroom -- judge it by how it feels when you ride.
One other change to the SS.13 is the pocket design. The pockets are made from a meshy spandex to both simplify entry and to compress the contents for stability. Also, the three rear, and one zippered pockets are now located more centrally on the jersey to minimize the likelihood of your gear sliding to the side of your waist.
The Assos SS.13 Short Sleeve Jersey is available in the colors Black, Blue, Red, Titan, White and Yellow. It comes in six sizes from Small to TIR. Remember that in the Assos world, XLG=XX-Large, and TIR=XXX-Large.
Please note that the SS.13 is built with a slimmer fit than other Assos jerseys. You'll find that the proper-fitting SS.13 will be one size larger than your size in the SS.Uno, National Federation, or Six Day jersey.

What community has to say
Tight, but very nice.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Me: Just over 6'1 150lbs 30-32" waist
I got the jersey in the white and black and it is very tight. Not so tight that you can't breath or anything like that, but more like a second skin tight. I really like it. It's really comfortable, and once you get use to wearing a tighter jersey out, it just feels great to ride in. It has six pockets! which is amazing. You can cary so much stuff and it's all neatly organized.
About the size again. I wouldn't put my name to just ordering a size up. I've only worn it with it fitting tightly, so I don't know if having it be looser would impact the overall comfort to be less.
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
Yes, definitely size up at least 1!!!
