Premium quality base layer wicks & warms

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

I included a few of these base layers in my investment in Assos winter clothing. I didn't experience anything magical about how they wicked away moisture. They work at least as well, and probably better, than the common Under Armour baselayers I have worn in the year past. However, the fabric seems higher-quality, more comfortable and luxurious. Sounds silly but I'd liken it to the difference between that premium Egyptian cotton and regular cotton towels. The Assos Skinfoils are definitely warm, though. In temps in the mid 40s to upper 50s, I can get by with just the base layer and a short sleeve summer jersey. (I would try to filter out marketing BS that phone reps may tell you, as I heard some of my own while shopping -- a base layer like this IS most definitely an insulative layer as well, not merely a wicking layer. And Assos rates the degree of insulation with their numerical clima range rating. Keep in mind that if you combine a 4 or 5 Assos base layer with a 4 or 5 Assos jacket, you are going to have a very, very warm combination of insulating layers.)

It's why ASSOS is the best!

  • Fit:True to size

I used to think all base layers were the same. A poly-type shirt that pulls moisture from your skin. Most of the time, they never work as advertised as you start your ride cold, then hit that perfect time of the ride when your body heat is trapped, then freeze on the return home. So I would just buy what's on sale. I was wrong. This is worth the money. There is no cold chill after sweating mid-way through my ride. The waffle material pulls moisture from your skin and allows it to evaporate off. When I finished my ride, I put my hand under the ASSOS Skinfoil and it was dry! The outside of the base layer was damp with perspiration. I wear this under a spring/summer short sleeve in mid 50 to low 60 degree weather, under a long sleeve jersey/light jacket in mid-40-mid 50's (depending on wind). As with all ASSOS products, it fits "anatomically". It clings to your body when you slip it on. The material is extremely comfortable, no annoying seam lines.
