Description

Socks for the seasons.

The aqua blue of the socks signals that something is different about these base layers for your feet. There's plenty different, in fact. Rather than use wool, a wool blend, or a dense polyester knit, Assos utilizes their RX and RXQ fabrics to make the fuguSpeer Socks. They even add protection with a windproof layer over the toes.

If you're familiar with Assos' winter clothing, you'll know RX and RXQ. RX is a stretch fleece fabric they've been using in warmers, jerseys, and tights for some time. RXQ is a thinner, stretchier, channeled version of the RX. It is great for places where less density is called for and flexing necessitates a material with greater stretch. This is why the RX is used for most of the sock and RXQ is used in front of the ankle and up the shin. The mix makes for greater comfort. Both fabrics wick moisture readily and should help when you wear these socks under shoes and booties on cold days. This is exactly how Assos expects you'll use the fuguSpeers.

The Assos fuguSpeer Socks come in Black with Aqua panels. They are part of Assos' Winter climaRange, which means 32-46\260 F (0-8\260 C). Your comfort range may vary. Sizes are 0, I, and II.

Superb quality and materials

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I would be single again if my girlfriend knew that I paid $60 for socks but was looking for something other than wool. I must say the quality and materials on these are super nice. I finally got to test them out on a road ride with only a thin Defeet wool sock underneath. Temps were in the mid 30's so after an hour I my feet had enough but would attribute that to the thin Defeet sock. I have some thicker wool socks that could cure that. As stated below large slots on the bottom and top for toe warmers.

UPDATE: My piggies were straight numb after a 2 hour road ride in 35 degree weather with Swiftkick wool socks underneath. It just wasn't enough but still a super quality product. I think for me 40 degrees will be the limit.

Honestly worth the money.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Firstly deciding to purchase these socks was a monumental task. $60 for 1 pair of socks, if I had a wife she would have killed me. But after 1st use in 35-40f degree weather and no toe warmers I have to say this worked very well. I think my toes were the warmest part of my body. When it does get down into the teens and 20's there are slots in the socks for toe warmers.

If these were $30 they would be a 5 star item. I'm only giving the 4 due to the price.
