Only the best for the best.

Within the walls of Assos' design facilities, the latest fabrics, fits, and design details are refined over and over again. This level of dedication derives from the Swiss apparel manufacturer priding itself on continuously being at the top of its class, tirelessly working to build the most advanced cycling apparel in the world. The newly released Competitive Cyclist SS Jersey Equipe embodies this spirit to the very last stitch, representing Assos' new short sleeve jersey design that's been finished off with an exclusive Competitive Cyclist colorway.

The bulk of the Competitive Cyclist SS Jersey Equipe was constructed from the new Assos Textile Lab Development - Type 151 fabric. This innovative material was designed with body temperature regulation in mind, as its composition works to transfer moisture at varying rates. When your body is hot, and your perspiration levels are high, the material reacts by accelerating moisture transfer from your skin to the fabric's quick-drying surface. Inversely, when your body cools down, the opposite effect results, where the evaporation process slows down, using body moisture as a means of retaining warmth. For additional body temperature control and increased moisture wicking, the SS Equipe's underarm panels have been constructed with Assos' highly elastic, lightweight mesh. The placement of this material provides you with both a free range of motion and enhanced breathability.

In terms of fit, the Competitive Cyclist jersey is situated between the SS.Uno_s7 and SS.Mille. This translates to a contoured fit that isn't too loose or too tight, complementing most body types and those who prefer a smoothly-stretching, supportive top over a compressive, race-cut jersey. Of course, this jersey, like all Assos jerseys, has been designed to accommodate the body within the cycling position. Accordingly, you'll find that the fit feels tight and oddly contoured while standing. However, the moment that you stretch to the hoods or get into the drops, you'll feel that signature Assos 'click,' and your ride will be guaranteed to be absent of any bunching, chafing, or pinching.

With two different fabrics, and twenty-four parts and components, comprising the Competitive Cyclist jersey, you're able to ride assured that no detail was overlooked during the design process. Examples of this become apparent when looking at the small, but necessary, features that are built into the jersey. In addition to the three lower back panel pockets, a zippered 'safety pocket' was sewn onto the right rear pocket, allowing you to stash your keys and cash, as well as to route your headphone wires through the inside of the jersey. Other finishing touches include rear reflective visibility stripes, a covered, full-front zipper, and an elastic/silicone hem at the rear.

The Assos Competitive Cyclist SS Jersey Equipe is available in six sizes from Small to TIR (which translates to XXX-Large) and in the Competitive Cyclist Black colorway.

just didn't fit

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

Jersey looks great and I had high hopes but I just couldn't get comfortable in it. I went with a Medium according to the sizing chart and it was too tight in the chest and restrictive in the arms - almost like there wasn't enough stretch in the material (like a cheap 100% polyester jersey). I tried on a friend's large and it was too lose in areas. frustrating. I have a pretty average build I would think too (5'10", 155#, 31" waist).
My rating of 3 stars is because I was forced to leave a rating and that was listed as "Adequate for the job" and that seemed neutral enough.

Wonderful Jersey When The Fit Is Right

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

For the record I'm 5'10" and 175 lbs in the summer , 180ish in the winter. So let's say I'm 175 lbs. Definitely not skinny , not chunky either. Regular built , good physical shape. Assos NeoPro S7 Medium and PI PRO in size L
I've tried the jersey in size L and it was uncomfortably tight across the chest. Sent it back, ordered the XL instead and I must admit this is a true gem of a jersey. The fit is contoured, without any bulk and excessive material but not excessively compressive super race cut either. The fit across the shoulders is perfect . Allow me to quote the description :
"In terms of fit, the Competitive Cyclist jersey is situated between the SS.Uno_s7 and SS.Mille. This translates to a contoured fit that isn't too loose or too tight, complementing most body types and those who prefer a smoothly-stretching, supportive top over a compressive, race-cut jersey. "
I also have to mention that the length of the jersey is spot on, not too short but not hanging long either.
I usually ride between 20 and 40 miles and I can see doing a century in this bad boy. excellent ventilation, comfort and moisture control
In terms of temperature range , I would recommend the jersey anywhere between 70 and 85F . Below 70 it would still be fine maybe with arm warmers when chilly. Over 85 I could stick with something a little more lightweight : Rapha Aero Pro ( size L ) , Couple Pearl Izumi Pro limited edition jerseys in size L and a couple of vintage 2008 PI Octane Pro Made in Italy is size M !!! I hope this will help finding the right fit.

Runs very small.

As with others, I find that Assos jerseys are all over the map on fit. My long sleeve jerseys, M fits great. Short sleeve version of same jersey was short—barely covering the bib. But I could live with it because it fit well everywhere else.

Not so with the Assos Competitive Cyclist SS Jersey Equipe. I should have returned it, but I thought maybe I could get used to it. Very disappointed. It's too tight in the chest AND arms.

Also the materiel is not what I expect from Assos. This just seems like a standard everyday jersey with the Assos name on it. Not the same quality as my other Assos jerseys, and at this price, it SHOULD be.

The material shines when the fit is right. I've tried it in size L and was too tight , moved up to XL and it's a different jersey . 5'10'' 175lbs

Cheesy / No Value for the Money

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I purchased this jersey and returned it twice. It rips just taking it out of the package. I'm sure this is a great brand, but I've never ripped anything just trying to take it out of the package. I never got to use it and tied up over $200. Not recommended.

Not supposed to use scissors LOL . Not a fair review at all.

    wrong size...runs extremelly small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

When I received it I realized they run extremely small. The X-large size roughly reached little bellow my belly button!!!
    Very disappointed...
    It will be returned.

    It's all about the fit.

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I've owned a bunch of Assos stuff through the years and quality is never an issue; however, fit is. I find their sizing frustratingly inconsistent. I own both the SS.7 and the Mille. I am 6'1", 185lbs, 41" chest. In the former I wear a XL(barely), while in the latter the XL was too large and I had to go down to a Large. I was advised to go XL on this model, but unfortunately found it uncomfortably snug across the chest and shoulders. If I go XXL it will likely be too long in the torso; hence, it is going back. Has to be perfect for this price. Too bad, as quality and aesthetics are great.

    Unanswered Question

I'm 6' tall, 215 lbs. with a 48" chest. Is the tir size a reasonable option for me? If not, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Might have to get just on Drzipgrip rec

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I love assos stuff. Mainly b/c it lasts forever. I'm tired of buying jersey/bibs that last 1 season. What a waste. I have assos stuff that will never die. Glad to know this is not the ultra race fit.

" situated between the SS.Uno_s7 and SS.Mille " - Would consider this as a great daily jersey, perfect fit, even for my 6'1" frame; still has a little room to move - or a pizza pie or two to hide :)

    Awesome :)

Best jersey - period. And sporting Competitive Cyclist goodies out on the road - it's surprising how many riders give a call out and comment on Competitive and how awesome their store is - well done :) I bought two :) Sweet zipper to secure all your goodies safely.

    Awesome :)

    LIves Up to the Claims

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Ok I have to admit, I have purchased a wide array of cycling jerseys from various manufacturers to accommodate varying outside temperatures I cycle in. I have spent hundreds of dollars to achieve this. Then comes the Assos Competitive Cyclist SS Jersey Equipe. I had been looking at it because of the claims of temperature control in varying outside ambient temperatures and moisture management control which keeps you warm when outside temperatures are cool and cool when it is hot out. It seemed to good to be true but I tested it and it actually works. During the summer and now in the fall in Maine I have cycled in the high 50's right into the high 80's and this jersey was comfortable throughout the temperature range. I am so impressed I am mothballing most of my other jerseys except the very best ones. Going forward I plan to add more Assos clothing to my cycling wardrobe. Yes their prodcuts are considerably more expensive but if you only need to buy one versus many to cover the temperature ranges from the 50's to the 80's it's actually a bargain. I typically wear a medium but the size chart indicated that I choose a small. I was a little concerned but the fit is really good forming and snug and is important for temperature and moisture regulation.

    In summary:

    Body temperature regulation works. Check

    - Transfers moisture at varying temperature rates. Check

    - Uses body moisture as a means of retaining warmth and cooling. Check.

    - Great range of motion and enhanced breathability. Check

To the point[s]: incisive, broad, 'objective'. Thanks a bazillion.

Appreciate the review. BTW, you went with a size small. I am leaning between S and M. I am 5'8" and weigh 136 lbs. May I ask what size you are? Thanks.
