One of the first things you should learn as a beginning cyclist is to ride with your elbows bent slightly so that you can maintain control in unexpected situations.  Having sleeves that are designed to bend with the arms is a nice thing. Assos takes care to do this with their armWarmers.S7. They combine their traditional RX fabric from arm warmers of yore with their new RXQ. The result is a warmer that stretches well and bends easily. The RXQ material is lighter, but with its channeled structure, it traps air against your skin and maintains excellent warmth.

The two-panel design allows the seams to contour the arm better than single panel designs. You can see how it forms around the muscles. Because of the better fit, Assos only needs to put half a gripper, sewn to the RX half on the warmer around the bicep. The tailored fit does the rest of the work to hold them in place.

The Assos armWarmers.S7 come in three colors -- Black, Red, and White. There's a reflective tab on each upper arm. Sizes are 0, I, and II.

Perfection in fit and warmth

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Size II

Preparing for the Gran Fondo New York, I needed to plan my kit for temperatures as low as the high 40s while waiting at the start for 45 minutes on the GW bridge to as high as the 60s during the ride. As it turned out, it rained, hailed on Bear Mountain and was generally cold. I wore these arm warmers in addition to the ASSOS Spring/Fall base layer and the GFNY Biemme race jersery and went back and forth wearing the Castelli rain jacket. It was a perfect combination. The arm warmers never moved and provided just the right amount of warmth. I never noticed them - which is exactly what you want from your cycling kit.

Perfection in fit and warmth

If you read my reviews you know I don't totally buy into the kool-aid of Assos (or any kit maker). Assos gear is expensive. The marketing is often a little bizarre. And the gloves aren't up to the high standard of the core of the Assos lineup (bibshorts).

BUT... no one... no one in the sport of cycling designs better bibshorts, jerseys, winter caps, and cold weather jackets. These arm warmers, too, are exceptional. Perfect for cool/cold morning starts.

The feel is luxurious. The fit is perfect. The textiles are exceptional. And these arm-warmers stay up (without digging into your under upper-arm skin).

FIT: I'm 5'10" (and 185), but the size II did fit me (were not too large). Perfectly snug all around actually. And almost too long, yes, but just almost. Fine really. But, clearly, these will fit someone taller than me as well.

A steal at this price!!! Get some while you can.

    Good stuff

Been cycling for over 15 years, but these are first arm warmers I've purchased. Liked them so well had to order a second pair. Perfect fit and feel good on your arms.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My Smartwool arm warmers were wearing out after six years of use and I needed new ones. I have cyclist-noodle arms and in general I always have a hard time finding cycling clothing that fits, arm warmers included. I had heard about the excellent quality of Assos items but never experienced it in person because the stuff is seriously expensive. When I saw these on sale I thought I should snag them and give them a shot. I pulled them out of the packaging and I had nothing short of an arm-gasm at how soft and luxurious they felt. I'm 6'1, 145 pounds, and again have the "TDF emaciated" look. The length on a "size II" is spot on for me. They cover from that knobby bone on wrist to my upper bicep (well above the cuff on my SS jersey). The circumference is excellent for my arms, they are snug but due to the anatomical/articulated structure and soft, stretchy fabric they never have that binding straight-jacket feeling that so many others do (*AHEM* GORE).

My first ride with them was a definite trial by fire. 6am roll out, September in Wisconsin (meaning we could see anything from 20 to 70F temps, sun, rain, snow, you name it, by noon). It was pouring rain and 35-40 degrees. My buddies weren't backing down so obviously I wasn't going to either. 72 miles of freezing rain and my arms were never cold. I had pulled the warmers up over the short sleeve cuff on my jersey but they kept sliding down (smooth fabric on smooth fabric) so I tucked them under the cuff and they stayed put. That's my only complaint, an elastic gripper or even a little extra elasticity in the fabric at the top of the warmer would make these an absolute home run. The extra scratchy tags on the inside would be my last nitpick (but my expert seamstress mother removed them). Other than that freezing rain ride I have used them down to non-rainy freezing temps and been very comfortable. They also dry out very quickly under a bathroom hand drier. Grade A all around, and the sale price was competitive.

Great arm warmer for thin arms

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am petite and thin (5' tall, 105 lb). Other arm warmers slide down my arms, but these in size 0 stay put. Also very comfortable and surprisingly warm with their thin fabric.

    $80 for arm warmers???

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Absolutely! These were my introduction to the Assos line. Like many cyclists I have more arm warmers than I'll every need. My wife got these for me as a gift, and I've never used another set since. The materials are amazing, the fit is perfect, they cover a broader temperature range, and they are the only warmers that I've never had to adjust during a 5-6 hour ride. I don't care if I'm the only guy on the team not wearing the matching team kit warmers. I'm sticking with my Assos.
