Protect ya 'bows.

Even if you don't want to wear bulky hard pads, it's nice to have a skin-saving layer between your elbows and the ground. Enter the Alpinestars Paragon Elbow Guards, a lightweight, breathable, and flexible pair of sleeves that will save your skin without causing discomfort while you're pedaling across techy XC terrain. Made of pre-shaped stretch mesh, it will move as you do without causing sweat to build up, while soft CE-certified pads add a lightweight layer of impact protection. Flat seams prevent irritation, and the elastic cuffs and internal silicone print keep the Paragon from sliding around while you climb, descend, and get just a little rowdy.

Love these

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Comfortable elbow protection that’s great for trail riding. I don’t need to stuff these in a pack for the climb and only put them on for the descent, I’m happy to put them on for the whole trail ride as they feel fine when climbing. Plenty of silicone grip strips keep these in place. No need for buckles or straps, just slide them on and hit the trail. I wore these for riding the Whole Enchilada in Moab, they were comfortable enough for such a long ride and offered enough protection to give me to confidence to ride the bigger lines.

Fit well, rides comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've ridden with these on a number of long rides (4+ hours) now and I love them. They fit well, even though I have short and somewhat fat arms. Once on, they are unobtrusive and fade into the background. At least until you topple over the bars and marvel at how unscathed your elbows will be! I've crashed a few times, putting these into the ground or a tree and walked away with nary a scratch. Exactly what I was looking for!

They work as advertised

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These pads are sleak and comfortable enough, although the Large size fit a little tighter than expected. I purchased these pads thinking they would serve to protect me through the harshest of crashes. Unfortunately, the first time using them I ended up in a minor spill that led to a significant injury. The skin was completely protected, but the padding wasn’t enough to prevent injury to the bone beneath, even though the crash was relatively minor. After reading the description through again I can see that these pads not designed for downhill protection which is my fault for trying to get something that won't get to hot. The pads seem sturdy enough, so I am wiling to give them a second chance. Hopefully no wipeouts the next few times around.

Great medium duty pads

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I ride year round and wanted a pad that was not to hot in the summer, but offered good protection for trail riding. My previous pads were the gel style that were suppose to harden on impact. Unfortunately, I still cut up my elbow after a crash. I have yet to have a problem with heat or crash protection with these. I like the fact that they are actually built to a CE-certified standard. Size wise, the size chart was spot on for me. My only real gripe is that they cannot be washed in a wash machine. I have found the best way to clean them is to wash them under a warm shower head using a liquid body wash, or shampoo. While these won't be a good choice for down hill, they work well for trail, or hard XC.

Tweak This

For Those Superman Days.

Yes, the coolest mountain bikers are likely to wear knee pads and keep their elbows bare, but the last few times I have been separated from my bike while riding on the trail, I have departed over the handlebars, rather than on one side or the other. I'm too old to have scabs on my elbows all the time, so I picked up a set of Alpinestars Paragon Elbow Guards, with the Paragon Knee Guards to match. I ordered the large according to the size chart and get a good fit. There is enough gripper material and contour that they stay in place for the entire ride. I wouldn't expect these guards to survive more than one or two crashes, but they are light and cool, which counts for a lot! they buy me just a bit more confidence on the dirt without being uncomfortable or obtrusive.
