Throwing yourself off of a bank and into god-knows-what is a good time for sure, but the bruises you get are not. The Alpinestars MTB Compression Shorts use articulated foam pads to protect your body without restricting your movement. Ventilation channels help bring in fresh air so your feet don't get funky, and the Lycra trim on your legs and thighs keep everything in place. The compression factor helps your legs recover faster without being so sore.

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.

Not my favorite

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have worn these a couple of times and I cannot find anything good to say about them. I purchased these because they are Alpinestars, so they must be decent, right? I was wrong because aside from being light weight, these are sub par. They are a bit snug at the leg openings so I find them to be uncomfortable. The foam padding feels thin and low quality as well.

My overall thoughts are if you are looking for a cheap pair of impact shorts, and you do not need a lot of protection then these may be okay for you. However, if you are looking for protection from shorts that are supposed to work properly during an impact, then I would spend a little bit more and get something better.

Awesome Pads

These pads are great. I'm not sure how much protection they really give me, but they do help. I can layer them over my compression chamois shorts if I want to, and they still fit great under my oakley DH shorts.

Hips: Check

Great shorts, true to size. Very lightweight and breathable.

Pretty good

I really like them, use them with my Alphine stars ride shorts... and i must say its a perfect combo. I wear them when im doing training and pedaling as well as when i ride DH.

-Dont make you look like you have a badonkadonk
-pads aren't huge and bulky
-Very comfortable
-never notice im wearing them when pedaling.
-Butt pad helps alot for long distance pedaling

-Swamp crotch, not to bad
-says not machine washable, but ive washed them many times on delicate/cold with no problems

I never ride without them anymore.

I didn't see this listed anywhere in the description, but do these shorts come with a stitched-in chamois?

Responded on

These DO NOT have a chamois in them. I just go them, they have some nice padding but they are a mesh short made to go over a chamois and under your riding shorts. Definitely NOT a chamois stitched in; misinformed by previous post!
