Best pad I have worn so far

  • Gender:Male
  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I have used and have been displeased by so may pads out there. Part of my difficulty could be body type related. I have bigger than average biceps and quads. My limbs look somewhat like the outside of a funnel. Both elbow and knees have great below the joint straps. I think this why they work for me. The elbows were not uncomfortable but the band around bicep is a little snug. Shape of pads seem to match my attack position and out of saddle pedaling position well. Once moving I do not notice them. Also not too warm.

Update - 14 stitches in forearm from an OTB crash wearing these pads. I believe my arm split because pads slid up toward elbow. This was a violent crash into rocks so take my comment with a grain of salt. I do think that I would not have landed in hospital if the pads staid put. I have body armor that has a strap just above wrist. I have been OTB 2x and have not had any sliding issues. I may still use these pads but put some tape or something near wrist to stop sliding. I wish there was an elbow pad out there that is just perfect. Alpine stars knees are! Maybe not so much for elbows.

Thank you very much for the great review, though it did set me on edge in terms of whether or not I should get these. By the way, how are you now? That is a pretty severe crash. Do you think the elbow/forearm pads cover enough space? And do you think these are better than the POC Joint VDP 2.0 DH elbow pads? That is the other brand that I'm thinking of buying from, though I know Alpinestars always comes out with high quality gear. If I can get your opinion, that would great!

I love these. Burly

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I have used these for a season and they are strong, relatively comfortable (no blisters for me as mentioned by other reviewer), and never fall down. I tried on a ton of pads before these and these seemed like the best. I use them for aggressive xc/enduro. I recently lost one (still not sure how I manned that) and am ordering a replacement.

Bought a pair of these because I know how good alpinestars motorcycle gear is and what a let down! They felt OK sitting on the couch but as soon as I took them for the first ride I realized they're too bent. Meaning to fit properly your arms need to be at about 110 degrees, but when riding you're arms fluctuate between like 170 and 90. So they where constantly falling down and even started giving me a blister (on my upper wrist) after 1 run. Returning them as we speak.
