Pedal-powered DH style.

Even downhillers have to pedal from time to time, so Alpinestars designed the gravity-loving Manual Short with lightweight fabric and plenty of venting to keep you cool when you have to hit some hills or do some hike-a-biking. A blend of polyester, spandex, and mesh provides toughness, stretch, and air movement right where you need it, and additional thigh vents help you stay cool even if you're padded up under the hot sun. The hook-and-loop waist adjustment system lets you dial in a fit that won't slip or squeeze, and the relaxed fit easily accommodates pads and boosts your steeze factor. Alpinestars included a removable mesh liner complete with a moisture-wicking and flexible chamois, to keep your undercarriage safe and comfortable when you're ripping around fast berms and through techy sections of trail. There are also plenty of pockets, including a zippered media pocket, to keep your snacks, tools, and tunes close by and easily accessible.

  • Polyester, spandex, and mesh
  • Removable liner with chamois
  • Thigh vents
  • Relaxed fit
  • Waist adjustment
  • Two drop-in pockets and one zippered hand pocket
  • Two cargo pockets

Odd fit.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 34

I should have paid attention to the other reviews that mention the odd and small fit. I ordered a 34 which is usually baggy for me and they were real tight around the upper part of the thighs. Very odd fit. I'm returning.

Alpinestars Manual Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I got it on sale and that being said it's expensive at $52.00 because I only used it once and the durability suck big time! Crotch area of this shorts are not built to last. My local dry cleaner is charging me 20 bucks just to get it fixed! Don't buy this garbage!

Worst Shorts ever

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Pockets are horrible everything falls out, crotch area catches on saddle. Durability is a joke; areas that needs to be reinforced are not. Area contacting saddle is worn to the mesh. Its like the descendants of the designers of the Ford Pinto entered the mtb apparel industry. Form over Function is a no go here.

Fits great but?.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Things fit great, actually my favorite pair in the closet, however, the smaller pocket up by the left hip tore relatively early on in its life with me.

Nothing some hand stitching couldn't fix though!

Terrible!!! Bad quality !!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I exchange them for size 40 because there are pretty tight for my size. Material looks strong but it is not. I had them twice. Second time i was wearing them for a 3 hours bike ride and look what left after a normal steady pedaling . It is garbage now!!! i would say for pants that even on sale cost 47$ it is a lot!! i wish i could get some refund!

Terrible!!! Bad quality !!!

Same here! Exact same spot, too. The material itself is great, but the stitching is extremely weak.

Dont plan on sweating....

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These are great for chillin' in....But as for riding they are not so great.. They stick to you like saran wrap when you sweat! only spot they breathe is on the knee cap? otherwise it feels like your wearing jeans....

Tight Thighs!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These are very nice shorts, and the waist size is pretty accurate. But they are crazy tight at the top of your thighs! Like cut off circulation to your legs tight. If you have skinny thighs get the shorts... otherwise, look elsewhere. :)

Bad Fit

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I think the shorts looked great until I put them on. The waist and length were fine but the crotch has a terrible design, it allows very little to no movement.

Restrictive

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

The construction and quality of the shorts seems to be of high quality but I did not like the fit. I found these to restrict movement quite a bit and the rear stretch panel didn't help much. The fit was loose but shorts could use some stretch panels in the legs or crotch. The chamois were pretty weak. They had a shorter than normal inseam and the pad looked pretty lame.

Great Shorts, A Little Overpriced

First thing first, I would suggest you size up since these have a heavy duty liner in them. I normally wear a 30-31, but got these in a 32" and they fit perfect. The actual shorts fit true to size, but you got to remember these also come with a seat liner.

Overall these are great shorts, seem to be made of a heavy duty cordura type material, haven't crashed in them yet, so can't say how will they would hold up, but from the looks of it, you aren't going to get anything better.

Plenty of pockets and breath-ability, the inner liner is made of the moisture wicking material as well.

My only gripe is they are a little over-priced for what you get, don't get me wrong, they are probably the best shorts I've ever own, but I'd say $20-$30 of the price in these shorts is the name brand. Hence my reason for giving them a 4 star review, price aside they are definitely 5 out of 5
