When you're pushing your limits, you're going to take falls-- it comes with the territory. And thankfully, you can stay protected and stay comfortable with the Alpinestars Comp Pro Top. It's got the full range of protective features you'd expect, like spine protection and shoulder pads, and it's cut to fit close to the body, so it's not restrictive. After all, there's no point in wearing pads if they're so bulky that you don't want to wear them.

Alpinestars built the Comp top to protect your core from all manner of on-mountain mishaps. Like the chest and shoulder pads, the spine protector is a soft padded removable affair, and that means you can use it when you need maximum protection, and remove it for washing, as well as those days that you'd prefer some added ventilation. The spine protector employs kidney belt, which helps to stabilize your core against harsh impacts. And the whole top has an anatomic cut, which is patterned to move with your body, instead of bunching. All of the padding sits on a mesh shirt base, which takes advantage of strategically placed ventilation panels to keep your core temperature down on hot days. The result is low-volume protection that you'll barely notice you're wearing. At least until you take a hard fall, and remember why you put it on in the first place.

The Alpinestars Comp Pro Top is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large, and in the color Black.

  • 8mm impact foam
  • Spine, shoulder, chest, and kidney protection
  • Removable padding
  • Lycra and mesh fabric

Here's what others have to say...

Hi 1'm 5'10" got a belly on me, was wondering what size might fit better L or XL , i am a 38 waist.. 41 belly and narrower shoulders.. more worried about being tight with the kidney belt and around stomach...

I'd say your in between an XL or XXL actually. Take a look at their size chart, your chest measurement might be good to have as well.

Unanswered Question

im 5'10 and 190lbs. wide shoulder and chest. is large a good fit?

How is sizing, I'm 6'2 approximately 180, wondering whether to go with large or x-l.

Best AnswerResponded on

This item is meant to be semi tight. It is an american sized product. Depending on your build, if you have wider shoulders and a bigger upper body I would go with the XL, other wise I would go with the large. This item will fit similar to your t-shirt size. second review - after using it!

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I like the fit. stays put and does not feel bulky when your riding. The material is a little itchy, thinking of wearing a very light shirt under it to keep it off my skin. Will make it easier to get off when your all sweaty too. The back protector is less intrusive then some others and not even bothersome on the lift when your leaning on it. I wish the shoulder pads were a little bigger and the chest pads were a little thicker. They will help you out in a fall but are far from the think hard padding. Overall I am happy with it. Took one fall on my shoulder and it helped take the impact. It's not going to give you that all out protection of the full, hard padded jerseys, but will give you decent protection and you won't ever heat on a hot day, it won't weigh you down and you forget your wearing it which is always nice

first impression

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got this in the mail last week. Tired it on and it seems to fit pretty well, does not feel bulky, shoulder pads seem like they would protect you but not too large or stiff. Chest pad is on the thinner side and is just soft foam. As the other review states, the shirt is kind of itchy. I have another sub gear shirt that is a different material and is way less itchy. I haven't used it yet for DH, I would probably wear a very thin shirt under it to help the itch.

It can take the "bang" for the buck

More downhill and moto specific. The material is pretty comfortable but it itches/scratches a little. Breathes well for pads. Takes impact well. Removable spine protector is a nice feature. Recomended highly.
